hey guys. I know how important it is to do a figure eight after each cast. How should you do a figure 8 with a creeper or hawg wobbler? I have never used a creeper but have heard they are good so im going to start using them. thanks.

Posts: 4080 Location: Elko - Lake Vermilion | I would say you could start into your 8 and than speed up the lure on the surface,... But what I like to do with topwaters is go into the first turn and than go subsurface with the lure to trigger that strike.

Posts: 8792 | If it's a tail prop like a topraider or whatever, I just figure 8 them like any other lure. For something like a Weagle? I've tried to just keep them walking side to side, because they basically do nothing in the 8. I've never been able to get a fish to commit to a topwater bait at boatside, so it will be interesting to see what others have to say on this.

i am talking about a creeper. i think the action would be spoiled in a turn like a figure eight.

Posts: 8792 | Yeah, that's a mystery to me too. I just keep them going at the same pace, on the surface, so they still make that *bloop, bloop, bloop* sound. It's nerve racking as all #*#* too, because I really only throw them close to and after dark when you can't see if there's a fish there or not. I fully expect that one day a fish will blast one right in front of me. And when that happens, as long as I don't soil myself, I'll consider it a success!

creepers in the eight : what Jerome said. from experience and watching others it's about all you can do. Like a woman they either commit or tease you. But going to fast when you go sub surface will cause the bait to spiral under water same with a tail bait. Only tip i can give, put some bling on the back hook it can turn a follower into - somebody get the net! shane

Posts: 360 | When the bait is 15 or 20 feet out I will swing my rod tip to the left and to the right. Make the lure do a S before the boat sometimes that direction change will turn a follow into a strike.

I have caught quite a few fish on top waters at boat side. Only one of them hit with the bait below water. Taking the bait under water has actually had the opposite effect for me. Almost every time the fish spooks and takes off when I take the bait under. I have had way more success keeping the bait on the surface, and doing large O's or 8's. It is pretty freakin unreal when you get a big one to obliterate a surface bait... literally...right at your feet. WTD's I just jeep them dancing around, back and forth, round and round...it works.

Posts: 682 Location: Sycamore, IL | With prop style baits I figure eight like normal...but, with wtd and creeper baits ive had success actually stopping the bait altogether when I have a fish following...let the bait sit for 10 seconds or so and then start it moving again...i had success with getting 3 different fish to strike at my jackpot on labor day last year[only got hooks in one] using this technique. Hope this helps! Matt
