Posts: 129 Location: North Metro - Twin Cities | Ok guys and gals, Caught this fish in the early 90's late fall on Bald Eagle Lake, Twin Cities Metro. Fish was a little better then mid 40's and when I first saw it in the water I called tiger. As I lander her however I thought just a really pretty true. Still when I look at the pictures to this day I see characteristics of both. Tail fins slightly rounded but red when most tigers seem to have the spots on the fins. Sorry the pic isn't better, it's a scan. I'm including another tiger for reference. What do you think? Location: Not far enough north! | Tiger for sure. I got some old pics where the fish are backlit like that and the fins are the same yellow color...

Posts: 980 | I actually vote pure...below is a pic of me with a pure caught from this fall in a lake where hybrids are not stocked and there are no pike either...I said the same thing about mine when I saw it in the water Attachments ---------------- 377508_10100255446345428_15708331_47094058_631906481_n.jpg (116KB - 141 downloads)

Posts: 129 Location: North Metro - Twin Cities | Larry, You may have a great point on the fishes build, it was much stockier then fish of similar size we caught out there that time of the year. Some had the large bellies but they didn't carry the stockiness throughout like this fish.

Posts: 556 | Tiger --compare the fins. The 2nd first is clearly just a barred natural--again you can see the difference in the fins.

Posts: 531 Location: Hugo, MN | I'd say tiger. Classic tiger bar pattern, rounded tail-fin, etc. The only thing is that its cheeks don't appear to have the markings like tigers usually do. It's hard to tell from that photo, the detail is poor. I've caught a ton of fish out of Bald Eagle, but just one tiger. The DNR used to stock Wisconsin strain muskies there, until the early 90's, I believe. The old Wisconsin fish didn't display coloration like the fish in question, though.

Posts: 175 Location: Tonka, MN | Agreed with the barred pure strain. One other thing you can look at in is the tail. The spots on tigers seem to run into the tail while pure's seem to cut off. Correctly me if im wrong here. Edited by TC24 2/3/2012 6:01 PM
