Just wanted to give everyone a heads up in advance for the MuskyFIRST outing on the Fox Chain this coming Saturday. The Chain is turning over! We had water temps yesterday on the Chain running from 55-58 degrees. The water is clearing up dramatically and you can see down 4-5 feet on Channel.

Musky fishing was slow at best as we only moved 2 small fish on jerk baits. We had hooks into 2 fish on Channel casting Ernie's and lost one trolling on the lower basin of Marie in about 15-18 feet of water. We dragged suckers all day with no rips on the meat.

Weeds are dying off, but there are still green weeds mixed in with them on the shallow flats. Both fish we moved came shallow (3 feet) and the 2 fish we lost came deep off the first break cranking Ernies. Fish are scattered due to turnover, so I'd suggest fishing some shallow weeds as well as probing the breaklines in search of active fish. If we anticipate windy conditions on Saturday you may want to leave the meat at home as it is a real pain to work suckers effectively in really windy conditions.

That's all I know, hope this helps eveyone out. I'm looking forward to meeting all of you on Saturday.

AHHHHH! Thanks for the info! It is nice to see some open sharing of info. only one problem for me. Like that is gonna give me any kind edge or help. I can take all the fishing knowledge there is and still launch my jerkbait into a docked boat or a tree! Anybody near me on Saturday should wear a helmet or duck alot. (jk)[:praise:]

Rich,
Saw you out there yesterday. Had similar results and findings. I would definately not suggest meat in the wind. We boated a fat 37 and had a rip trolling.

Rich,

Thanks very much for the update. I second the earlier post thanking you again for your willingness to share information. I have not been able to fish the chain since May and the information you provideed will be very useful in attempting to put a "plan of attack" together for Saturday. Not that a plan is going to help me, it will just make me feel like I was somewhat prepared to go after those toothy beasts. I really appreciate the sharing of your knowledge and experience on the Chain.

Look forward to meeting you Saturday.

Doc
