Posts: 66 | Does anyone know if there is a way to read my waypoints on my computer??? So I don't have to stand in the garage scrolling through my locator. I know how to save them from my locator onto an SD Card...is there a way to read that data on my laptop through a program somewhere??? Thanks Dennis

I can read mine just by inserting the SD card into my laptop and then clicking on the desktop icon. I know other folks have had to download the right software (usually free of charge) to read the SD/Map Chip cards but it was not too difficult for them. If you have a Lowrance, here is the tech support number I always call: 800-628-4487 Good Luck

You need some simple software to assist you. I haven't used any of the Lowrance-specific PC software, but Navionics and Humminbird each have their own to help you. The Navionics "PC App" allows you to view their maps on your computer. You can also import and export data points between your computer and gps unit. This software is a free download if you purchase a mapset to use on your computer; most of the mapsets are ~$25. The "Humminbird PC" program allows you to import/export data points between your computer and gps unit and displays the information on your computer using Google Earth. This software is a free download when you register your Humminbird unit. Both require a simple transfer using an SD card.

There is a program called GPSbabel that will convert the waypoints to many formats. One useful one is KML, which would allow the waypoints to be seen/managed in Google Earth.

The same GPSbabel program will be able to convert back from KML to the original format. It can also convert waypoints from one GPS type to another, so if you have a Hummngbird, you can share your waypoints with a friend that has a Lowrance for example.
