Tackle Industries - 1/12/2012 2:26 PM Then new one piece 8' rod will come in MH, XH and XXH in both split and full grip. REally looking forward to the new rods! 8' trolling rod coming out in 3 weeks too along with the new 8' solid rod lines. Sounds perfect. What is the handle length of the new 8' (XXH) full grip, and can you specify where you are measuring that length from? Thank you.

Posts: 980 | Muskieswede it definitely can and mine did suprisingly well too. Of course the XH will toss them with much more ease but the MH did well with them too. He tests his MH rods with 2 pounders

Location: Ontario, Canada | Would appreciate some info, on these two thoughts: 1-Which power of the new 8' rod is best suited for magnum dawgs XH or XXH ? 2-If it's the XH that is better suited does that mean the XXH would be just too stiff in the tip, or does it come down to personal feel regarding these two powers while using mag dawgs ? Reasons for the questions is that I'm trying to define for what purpose I could use both the XH and XXH 8' rods in my arsenal. Thanks. Al

I'll put my vote in for an 8' two-piece. I would keep it in the back of my truck as a travel rod/wading rod. It would be used from shore (on in the water) of a small river, so I think a 9' rod is a little too long for this application.

Posts: 4053 Location: Land of the Musky | Allen, IMO you will be happier with the XH rod for Mag Dawgs. It will also throw pounders too but it loads up just a little too much. Many do not know this but all of my rods can throw big baits, even the MH (1-6oz lures). This is due to the materials and adhesives we used to make our blanks. What we did though was rated our rods for the lures weight they load up in the "sweet spot" with. Personally I like the XXH for most baits, even a small 7" Suick. The problem is, you really need to watch your reel drag when throwing baits outside of the lure ratings for the rod or you will birds nest your reel a lot. So, you are correct with the personal "feel" for the rod of choice but 80%+ of my customers like the XH for double 10s up to mag swimbaits. Some like their rods to load up more and gt the MH and some less and choose the XXH.

When will your 2-piece rods be available for purchase? I have been waiting a while for someone to come out with these types of rods for muskies. Can't wait to get one or two.

I have been looking for a 9' two piece rod for a pike fly-in trip. Would like to throw shallow invaders, regular bull dawgs, and the occasional mag dawg. What would you recommend? Thanks!

Posts: 245 | How about a little lighter musky/pike rod? A 8-9' 3oz rod (2-piece) for small baits and regular pike fishing?

Posts: 4053 Location: Land of the Musky | MuskieSwede, I will have that rod. It will be part of my new 2-piece rod line and will come in the power of MH for lures up to 6oz. I hope to get that over to Europe ASAP to retailers. It will come with either a split or full grip handle too.

Yeah but i would like an even lighter rod, as i said, 3oz casting weight (like the St Croix Legend Long Ranger)

Posts: 4053 Location: Land of the Musky | The sweet spot for the MH is from 1-6oz and many use it for lures less than 1oz too. A 3oz bait is right in the middle of the optimal loading range for this rod.

Posts: 221 | Great stuff James. I'll be grabbing a couple of these, especially for the Costa Rica trips! I'll put in a vote for a 9' or 10' two piece glass trolling rod!

I use these rods specifically for 6" grandmas, smaller blades and spinnerbaits, jigs, and small glide baits. Works perfect for those size baits
