| On the 8 inch version do you guys cut the hooks off and put split rings on,
and do the hooks tangle up more that way?

| I would suggest just T'ing the front two hooks, if you cut the hooks you have to go down to a 4/0 instead of the 5/0's that come standard on the bait. I like going with the 4/0's with split rings because they're easier to change out and also remove the cotter pins in favor of screw eyes. I recently bought a like new Reefhawg off here that I replaced the cotter pins on; which had been almost completely rusted out though the lure was almost new. |

Location: Twin Cities | I do that as well. I don't like the leverage the fish can get on the hooks/lure during the fight without split rings. It may be a confidence thing but it seems to work for me.

| I know that there has been debates over the years about split rings on the Reef Hawgs. I've tried both ways and am convinced the standard is the way to go. The action of the bait changes slightly with split rings and they are not as weedless with hooks swinging to and fro. Leavin' the dance with who brought me....... |

Location: north central wisconsin | I'm with steve on this. Leave em alone. The action you lose when split ringing is more noticeable that the leverage a big fish might not get.. The only cotters I have ever had open up were in the net. i wouldn't T the hooks either. You will save wear on the lure, but decrease hooking %. |
