| Very nice tutorial. The only thing I would do different is to oil instead of grease the worm gear. Grease seems to attract to much other dirt and debris plus it can slow down the reel during the cast. |

I started using grease on customer reels, that never sees a drop of oil during a whole season.
But you are right, grease attracts dirt, and oil are normally the better choice when things get gritty.
Regarding the levelvind and slowdown of the spool. When casting big baits, as we do, the wind resistance is the biggest hurdle. Tuning of the levelwind only brings a minor advantage.

| Killerbug, agreed about the resistance. If it were used for light weight bass lures it's one thing but when you're throwing a bait the size we do for musky it's a moot point.
I agree with you also on the brass bushings and plastic bearings comment in your tutorial but today's anglers have been trained that more bearings equals better. Which again has some merit when disgusing throwing real light baits but with the baits we throw a properly oiled brass bushing would work just as good. |

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | If your Toro 50/60 reel has 18.00 on the reel foot U MUST replace #25 part 1156749 for right hand reels and part # 1156750 for left hand reels, the kick level. If your reel has 18.01 or 18.02 it should have the upgraded kick level. When I do a Tune/Clean I will replace them at N/C
To each there own but if I can replace a bushing for a ball bearing I will, all frame bearings get grease so they should stay lube for a season.
Here are some pic of the Kick lever and what can happen to the original one and a pic of the replacement one with the S.Steel insert.

Mark C. I do not have any of the left hands ones, U will need to order them from ABU and U will want part # 1156750 that should be the new kick lever for left hand reels. |

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | If your reel has 18.00 on the reel foot then U have the old kick lever and U should replace it ASAP. If the old kick lever breaks then U won't be able to cast the reel. The old kick lever is made from a very soft pot metal and it will break after about 2 years of use. |

Location: Scotland | Hi Pikemaster, Parts for any Toro are very difficult to get here in the UK hence the reason for asking , my Toro 61 18 00 has the revised kick lever as standard, but I would like to keep a spare. |

There is also the hard way!, but do it carefully. If you pres down the thumb bar down pretty firmly, and at the same time engages the spool by turning the handle, you can easily feel if the click lever jumbs over. I have done this on the Revo Inshore, but it should work on the Toro as well. |
