I recently spoke with Wisconsin DNR fisheries biologist Doug Welch
regarding the possibility of intoducing the great lakes/spotted strain of
muskie to Lake Geneva. He seemed receptive to this idea provided that there
is enough interest in the angling community to warrant such an undertaking.
Think of the potential that a lake like Geneva has to offer:
5000+ acres,100+ft deep,cisco/shiner forage base,longer fishing due to later
ice if any. last year it did not ice over!
Also consider that the lake Delavan stocking program hasn't really taken
off. Whether this is due to inadequate forage or other reasons I don't know.
How many of you currently go up to northern Wisconsin or Minnesota to have
a shot at a trophy lunge? Wouldn't it be nice to have that option a little closer to home? If you support this idea drop doug an e-mail and let him know! You can reach him at: [email protected]
The more he hears about this the more likely something will happen!
STAY POSITIVE AND BE PRO-ACTIVE!

Thanks for your support!

That would be great, to have muskies in lake geneva. I'm surprised it has been stocked yet though.

How many would they have to stock....that lake is really big!

Also one must consider the cost facter...its it not true that it costs a ton of money to launch there?

Welcome to the site...Lungehead!
Great topic!!![]

Oh god, that would be awsome because god knows there is definately baitfish in that lake. And trolling...oh god. Put me down as a YES also.

There are big musky in delavan, they just stock them in such a low number that it is hard to warrant the time to fish them. It would make a fine musky lake.

lake geneva would be great also, again how many would they stock. I have heard they would never stock it and you can bet there will be oposition.

Lake geneva would be great but there are alot of lakes in s.e. wi that could easily benefit from a musky stocking program. I can think of about 40 or so right off the top of my head.

My dad and I fish Lake Geneva all the time for Smallies. I think it is around $7 to launch in Williams Bay. Although, you can get a season pass and it would be a lot cheaper. This lake has a ton of forage and crystal clear water. Definitely would produce trophy muskies. I can't see a reason why not to stock the lake. Definitely better than the Toilet Bowl, plus there is a speed limit.

I would say way better to put muskies in Geneva than Delevan. I refuse to go to Delevan because of the water quality. It takes a month to clean Delevan junk out of your reels.
I think Geneva would be the true Trophy potential in the area.

I think that would be awesome also. It would give me a very close trophy fishery, if the numbers could be stocked. Although it does get busy during the summer, me being part of the problem wake boarding out there all the time.

ToddM-(anyone with info on Delavan) in response to low stocking numbers, I was told by the area's biologist Doug Welch that Delevan receives 2500 fingerlings a year. I would think that would make a viable fishing population with stocking just over 1 per acre per year? Do you think the fishery has not taken off due to not stocking yearlings and predation or other factors? If you feel other factors could you please list those?

Was out last weekend at delevan and talked to DNR. He said that the reason the muskie fishing isn't better is because there are way to many big northers that eat the smaller muskies. The DNR guy said that there has been 5 or 6 48 inch northerns taken this year and hundreds of mid 30 inch northernswhich basically means no room for muskie. There are a few muskie though caught one a couple years ago bass fishing and had one about forty inches hit a buzz bait last fall fishing for bass in the docks. I also know that Lake Como which is only 5 miles from there was stocked with muskie in 1999. My grandmother has a cottage on como and lets me read the home owners reports which says they have stocked musky every year since 1999.

Just think of how many less people there would be swimming and skiing if they knew that BIG FISH WITH BIG TEETH were in there!!![] [] [:0] [;)] [:praise:]
