Posts: 3504 Location: Elk River, Minnesota | Hiya, You would be asking for trouble if you did that. It is illegal and no conservation officer would ever buy your story... That is one of the nice things about fish cleaning stations, or carrying your own cutting board. Do it when you get off the lake, dispose of/bury the remains, and you are all set. Plus...you are not carrying any extra weight in your boat. Steve

Last spring I was checking in boats at the landing on the chain where we have a cottage. I couple of guys came in after an early morning of fishing for crappies (before the musky opener). They had kept enough crappies for a couple meals in their live well. But when they were trailered they took the fish from the live well and put them in a cooler containing ice they had in the back of the truck. Said that once they became aware of the issue of transporting invasives via live well water they starting doing that. It preserved the fish well, and they could drain and dry their live well. I always wondered if they came back for musky at a later date. They had one hit a crappie they were bringing to the boat and had two others follow their little rubber jigs to the boat.

Posts: 1516 | I would bring them home on ice. They will stay plenty fresh on the drive home. That's the way we transport fish on the water on Lac Suel. The have to be dead,so we thump them and put them in a cooler with about 5 # of ice in it. If they stay cold they will clean up very nicely.
