the resale value of the trinidads. i've been looking to pick up a 16na for some time now and i'm glad i waited. right before the tranx info surfaced they were going for anywhere from 375 to 400+. now guys are barely getting three hundred for practically new ones. curious to see how low they go. especially after guys start getting tranx's in their hands

Someone earlier mentinoed everyone "chasing the rainbow" with the new reels, and I agree. I'm sure the Tranx is awesome, but I love my 16NA and I'm keeping it. I don't mind the non levelwind at all and actually like the lever vs the thumb bar. If $500 fell in my lap, sure I'd get a Tranx, but it's not worth selling my silver Trini for peanuts just to get the next best thing. The Trini's have done me well and I'm going home with the gal I brought to the dance.

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | Not me, I'm so glad to get rid of my non/level wind reels both Trinidad and Saltist reels. I hate the lever, I hate the backlashes from casting into the wind. Always watching the spool so line don't pile on one side, Tranx (Rainbow) here I come, I will get both gear options for 2012.

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | At the Chicago Musky Show Larry Dahlberg and Muskie Mayhem on Fri Jan 13 at 5:30 pm are having a DC10 reel burning contest, I have a feeling that the Tranx in 6.6 gears will smoke all other reels. Should be fun to watch.

Should be fun to watch. Please someone film the contest (and everything else at the show) so we europeans can see it aswell!

Posts: 753 | I can see the Tranx ultimatley relacing many 16NA's. I have a few and have already sold a new one I did not use last year and will be putting a Tranx on one the Rods that normally has a 16NA on it. That being said I do not see it replacing the 14 on my H Predators. The 14 is a much lighter reel and unless something comes along down the road that can match its performace and size I do not see giving up the 14's.

The Trini 16na is faster, yes, but in practice I've had to pull line off my 16na's to reduce backlashes when throwing into the wind. I actually measured and found I was getting only 38" of line pick-up per crank. Taking this into account, I expect to get more speed from the slightly slower (high-gear ratio) TranX. I'm hopefully that the TranX resolves the problems I encountered with 16na's w/out sacrificing the speed. One 16na sold, one more to go... Brian

I don't think that we need the Tranx here, we dont use large enough blades to need a powerhouse reel to burn all day.

Put your rod tip in the water - you cant reel a bait faster than a muskie can run it down.

Posts: 531 Location: Hugo, MN | I stopped in at Joe's Sporting Goods (St. Paul, MN) today to do my Christmas shopping for the year and saw the Trinidad 16a and 16na were on sale for $279 or $289 each, and the 12a was $249. Not sure if that's just a holiday special or if they're clearancing them out to make way for the Tranx. Either way, that's a darn good price.

Posts: 1318 Location: Lebanon,Mo | The Tranx will probably smoke the other reels during the show, but other manufactures have yet to release there reels that will compete with the Tranx in 2012,or 2013. Just a matter of time. I normally visit the Chicago Show on Fridays, but the contest is really not on my agenda for the day.

Posts: 209 | I just made this observation: the TranX gets less line pick-up than a TN16NA or 16A, but it has a higher gear ratio and supposedly the same spool..? That just doesn't add up. This isn't a slam at either reel whatsoever, just thought it'd throw it out there and see if anyone has any ideas.

Your is right but since most of people don't spool full on their Trinidad's which it's lose more inches per reel. pretty sure tranx have ability of holding full spool and still have high inches per reel. I sold my saltist because of that. Nonsense to buy a high speed reel if I can't spool full to get what I really want.

I hope other manufactures will come out with a reel that will compete with the Tranx reels, but the one thing that the competitor reels will not have on it is the name SHIMANO on there side plates.

In Sweden there is the Baltic Sea with pike and salmon, etc. Here in my country (Italy) we have tuna, sea bass, amberjack, swordfish, bluefish, etc. It should be very exciting fight with a tuna using Tranx (like Larry in the video) esoxone

Posts: 567 | sounds interesting..i too am curious to look at and hold a 500$ reel, I have always been happy with my shimano products and my winch and saltist as well. I think they all have their place, I prefer my saltist for big rubber. that reel burning contest will be fun to watch, but I bet none of them can keep up with that cooter double 10 trolling harness 2 x 4 thing behind a mercury 9.9...LOL Merry Christmas too all! Hope to see the video of the contest after the show.

For pike we dont need a huge reel with that fast line pickup since we dont really burn baits alot. For salmon we have Ambassadeur which 99% of swedes love, anyway most of us want a non disengaging levelwind (especially for hard running fish like salmon and sea fish). I just don't see its place in swedish fishing.

Posts: 311 Location: Ontario | Never mind, Shimano has (at least had) SPINNING reels that were $1100+ ! And they've been around many years. This kind of stuff is very similar to stocks, in that there comes a point where what something is worth gets determined strictly by what people are willing/not willing to pay for it. 'Value' has less to do with what's actually being made and sold and more with the ammount of money people are willing to exchange for it. I think Daiwa has/had regular freshwater (like bass/walleye/trout) spinning reels they get over a grand for, too.

The value of EVERYTHING is determined by what people are willing to pay for it, not just stocks. Some people aren't willing to pay $.50 for a parking meter, and others may see that as an immense bargain. It has little to do with the actual price, and everything to do with what people perceive as the value of that price.
