Is it possible to hook up a Humminbird/Lowrance unit to a waterproof monitor? Which models will work, and how good will the graphics be generally speaking? Would there be a major delay?

Posts: 177 Location: Cohasset, MN | According to the manual for my Hbird 898 there is a "Video-Out" connector. It requires an adapter cable. For domestic units the only output option is NTSC format. I've never used it. Can't help with the waterproof monitor.

Any other models besides the 898 have the same video-out capabilities? Looking for getting the cheapest GPS/Plotter available with this connection and hooking it up to a larger screen. Considering side/down imaging as well.

I do not believe they have a video out plug on them. I've never seen or heard of one on them. yes, the higher-end Humminbird units do have video out. it's designed to be "plug and play" for use exactly as the poster is asking about here. i don't have time to look it up, but i believe the 800, 900, and 1100-series all offer video out. i don't think the 500 or 700-series and have that capacity. Video and GPS Output Connectors Your unit comes with a Video Out connector and a GPS Out connector, which can be used with optional purchase accessories. For instance, if you purchase a video monitor and attach it to your control head using the Video Out connector, your unit will automatically send a video signal if it detects a monitor. Posts: 307 | I was going to do the same a few years ago until I priced out waterproof monitors. I didn't find one that was cheaper than an 1197. If you found something affordable, please post it.

You can get a 10.4" waterproof marine monitor for $1,500. I agree that it's too expensive to make sense. But you can get a non-waterproof model for $200. http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&rlz=1G1GGLQ_ENUS373&q=... There must be something that would work here. It would be nice to have a monitor on the bow to view the unit at the console. You could run maps on the console unit and not bother with a GPS at the bow. Between map chips and the cost of the bow unit I imagine there is some serious money to be saved, and you'd also have the advange of a big screen GPS up front!

Humminbird lists the VC 1 cable for use on the following units: 1155c 1157c 1158c 1197c SI 1198c SI 998c SI 958c 898c SI 858c ..

Posts: 258 Location: Mayville, WI | Just a thought - but would any of the the underwater cameras used for ice-fishing come w/ video in on the monitors? You could then have a dual-use monitor for way less than the one quoted above. (I have not looked into this - just an idea)

Here's the same one that's listed above. You can get them through Overton's, which I would feel very comfortable purchasing from them. 10.4" for $280 15" for $400 http://www.overtons.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?i=93578&pdesc=P...

I hardly think "splash-proof" mean good for cold crazy driving rain. Of course, you could just use it on nicer days. Unplug that external monitor and use the unit's normal screen display on days when it's cold crazy driving rain.
