| looking for a new unit since mine just crapped out today. was just to curious to the guys that have si and di units would you say that they are invaluable tools to have or more of a just a neat feature. my question is are the si/di units worth the extra expense. i can definetly see their merits but i question if i would use them more than just the sonar/map chart split screen view. any info would really be appreciated thanks guys and gals. |

Location: Iowa | It isn't a necessity, probably the way gps is nowadays. I have the HDS/structure scan and it is a valuable tool to have in the boat and and is worth the money. Most of the time I have the screen split between gps and structure scan. It shows everything with a lot more clarity and you can tell exactly what those red and yellow blobs are on your 2d sonar. Structure will also be alot easier to pick apart especially with side scan.
If you decide against it and you decide to go with a lowrance unit. At least you have the option of adding it later.
The picture is of a rock bar in MN. One of things about side scan is the shallower the water, the less effective it is. As you can see in the picture. Pay no attention to the range numbers on the bottom of the screen. I wonder myself why they put those on there. But on top of the bar it is pretty blurry to the shallow side but to the drop off side it is pretty clear and can see rocks all the way to the rightside of the screen.

I love my LSS and use it all the time. I can tell what kind of weed growth I'm over when conventional sonar just shows "something" down there. Not to mention all of the wrecks, rock piles and structure I've found with it that isn't on the chart.
Why disregard the range numbers? I rely on those often. |

| This graph is the best tool thats ever been made for fishing since the reel was invented . The guy before is right on when he says you can see changes in weeds and rocks inside thick weeds. It a sweet way to find subtle changes in bottom topography . Its the best way to find cribs and rock piles known to man . not only that its easy to use and thats always nice . I dont think you need one to rock the fish but it sure makes me feel more confident about the structure im fishing with one in the boat. Not only that it gets me fishing far more spots that i would never normally have fished and i explore the lake with far more precision then with regular graphs/gps. This unit helps find muskies and its a sweat tool if you can afford the hit to the pocket book that is . Their has to be a cheap one coming someday right?! |

Location: Stevens Point, WI | To me, it's invaluable. Learn how to use it effectively and you'll wonder why you didn't invest in it earlier. I've found a lot using SS, but DI is just as important, it can really decipher what your sonar is marking, wouldn't be without it now. |
