I had a Heli-Dawg a few years ago that broke within the first dozen casts it made. With all of the new Bull Dawgs on the market and improvements that were supposed to have been made, is it safe to buy another one? For the record, it would be the regular-size walleye pattern from MTO. He specifies that this pattern is "the new and improved plastic", so it's definitely not a leftover one.

That's not very encouraging. Anyone else have any problems/success?

Posts: 32886 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | c&r, I'm not hearing or seeing anything of the sort from the recent dawgs. All reports here have been very good. Log in, Guest. That's the second time you complained and as far as I can tell you haven't even contacted MI yet? If you have any issues, contact the builder and they will take care of you.

I had issues with a couple pounders 2 years ago. I shipped both of them back to Musky Innovations with a short, polite note explaining the problem...less than a week later I had box with 4 pounders on my doorstep.

The Heli-Dawg I had problems with was purchased for me two Christmases ago (2009), and was used (very briefly) in the Spring of that year. Is it worth trying to ship it back at this point? I never did because I didn't want to sink more money into the shipping, but I regret not doing so now. It has literally sat in my box since it broke, but will they take a lure back that is that old, even though it was unusable for the last year? Here's the official story: Used it for a few casts and noticed that the wire connecting the harness to the blade was severely bent from the pull of the blade. At the time I didn't think anything of it, I just wrote it off as part of the design, and didn't really expect it to snap off. After another dozen casts the wire connecting the blade did break off, leaving me with an expensive standard Bull Dawg. I used that for a few trips, but the connection at the harness and the wire connecting the blade was weak (inside the body), and eventually it snapped into two pieces. The only thing that is currently holding it together is the rubber. There were no fish caught or hooked on the lure, so that was not the cause of any damage.

Not to mention that when a company has a product fail on them, they want to know about it so they can address the problems. Most companies want to provide the best service and products possible and customer feedback is the best way for them to do this. My experience with MI when I had an issue with one of their products was nothing short of exceptional. Sometimes a bad batch or two come out of a thousand. They'll take care of you

Thanks for the advice. I do feel a little guilty about complaining about a product that was purchased so long ago, even though the issues occurred within the first few times it was used. Is everyone positive that it isn't wrong to bring this all up for a lure that is two years old, and I failed to mention anything to MI about it for over a year? I'm not sure if my parents still have the receipt (it was given to me as a Christmas present, purchased through Rollie & Helen's), but I definitely have the box. Here are a few pictures. They are not the best quality, and they should be rotated 90 degrees to the right (so the head of the lure is facing down). You can kind of see the harness wire sticking out of the body in the second picture (it's right behind the hook). Instead of continuing to ask here about what you should do or what MI will or won't do, why don't you just contact MI? They're easy to reach. http://www.muskyinnovations.com/company.htm Tell them the situation and ask what they can do. You'll get ALL of your questions answered that way. Pretty simple.

Well I'm trying to gather some opinions before going to the source. I expect I will contact MI some time after Christmas. I honestly feel guilty about contacting them on the matter as I let it go for over a year. Had the problem occurred over the fall I would not hesitate, but I feel as though I did not do my part by failing to contact them for a significant amount of time.
