Posts: 477 Location: Iowa | I just got a 1997 690VS with a Mercury 150 efi. It has a High 5 23p prop. When I test drove it this fall it seemed to over rev easily. Who else has a 150 and what props are you running, and how does boat respond. Trolling motor and electronics could be updated too. How long a shaft do I need? I don't see me fishing rough enough water that I would need a 60 inch, but what does everyone else have and how does it work? Anything else I should know about the 690VS? Can't wait to fish this boat next year. I loved my 681VS, but just couldn't pass up this deal. Posts: 2015 | I would definitely get the 60" shaft....that's what I have on my bass boat, its rare but Ive had that out of the water in IA on very wind days. Edited by IAJustin 12/19/2011 8:36 PM

It is amazing how tall the waves can get on some of our lakes. I don't think I would be in rough enough water, but then I think about some of the stuff I took my jon boat in (that I probably shouldn't have). It is easier to fish rougher water with a bigger boat, so I think you are right. I probably better go with a 60.

Location: Contrarian Island | go w 60"...you can always raise the collar but you can't make it longer when the going gets rough... if they made a 70" shaft I'd but that...but they don't... go with 31 size deep cycle batteries... if it doesn't have it get the front deck extension from Ranger...Awesome storage..holds about 15+ of the big deep plano boxes... for the price you got that rig you should repower w a 175 Pro XS! ; ) Edited by BNelson 12/19/2011 10:01 PM

Posts: 1901 Location: MN | You will love fishing out of that boat. Go 60" on the TM for sure. I have a '95 with the 150, and 9.9 kicker. There was a 3 blade ss prop (not sure model) on it when we bought it, but switched to a 21p Hi 5 and it improved the hole shot tremendously. Hi end we get 52-53 mph when full, but we pretty much run it just fast enough to keep it on plane. It's been a great rig for us.
