Posts: 93 Location: WI | Got a new terrova last year and this year I noticed that if I run it on 10 speed for like 20 -30 sec. on constant It beeps like 3 or 4 time and kills the constant. Now today it was doing to on speed 8 when I was fighting the wind. Then I'll turn it back on and it'll run for a few seconds and kill again and there are no weeds on it so i know thats not killing it. Anyone know why this is happening? Getting kinda sickening when I'm fighting wind or tring to get somewhere fast. Thanks! Edited by bstein 10/15/2011 8:06 PM

Posts: 1184 Location: Iowa Great Lakes | What gauge wire, size of motor/boat and breaker size? I run an 80# on a 17' glass deep v and rare to get above 5 on the power. I have 6ga run from battery and the correct 60 amp breaker... mine has never shut down even when cranked up on 10 to make short moves..

Posts: 93 Location: WI | Its a 55lb trurst on a 17 foot smokercraft. Not sure the gauge of wire I bought the boat new in 04 and they installed the orignal powerdrive on it then. I just upgraded to terrova for the ipilot.

Posts: 1040 | I would guess that your system is overheating and the motor is shutting itself down before any damage is done or fuses are blown. But, that is just a guess from a guy who knows almost nothing about wiring and current. If you want a better answer, contact Ed Schilling at 414 321 9662. He is the best MinnKota repairman around. Call him and tell what is happening and he may help diagnose the problem and recommend how to fix it.

Posts: 131 | if you have a "brass" 3 prong plug thats probably your problem.the cheap plugs that manufactures used just won't stand up to the current draw of the terrova.look at it for signs of heat to be sure thats the problem.we run into this all the time and usually if we replace the plug[btoh sides, boat and motor] with a stainless minnkota plug[$40] the issue is resolved.if not it sounds like it may be a battery problem that isn't supplying the correct voltage[weak cell, ect].

Posts: 7 | Most trolling motor problems can be traced directly back to wiring. Make sure all of your connections are clean and corrosion free. This includes the battery terminals, breaker connections, and plug connections. 12 volt systems actually draw more current than 24 volt systems. I consider 6 ga. wire a must. After cleaning the connections apply some dielectric grease to prevent further oxidation. Have your battery load tested and charged correctly. Can't make any assumptions with electricity, everything must be measured.

Posts: 93 Location: WI | Ok dug a little deeper and look at the things you guys said and looks like it has 6 ga wire. I think it might of been a loose nut on the breaker in the battery box it was fairly loose. The plug seem to be a pretty heavy duty plug and shows no signs of heat or discoloring. Thanks guy for all the help! If I have any more problems I'l call them for help with the # you gave
