Posts: 13 | ok so i was lookign at buying the revo toro winch reel, but the gears seem to be really low. great for big bucktails but i dont tend to cast them to much, im mainly casting regular sized dawgs, the odd pounder and jigging the bondy bait. some crank baist. would i be better off buying the revo toro? or shoudl i get the revo toro winch? anyone used the toro winch for muskies and how do you like it? and also how would this reel compare to a curado 300? any advice would be great.

Posts: 295 | They just discontinued the regular speed toro and now only make the high speed and the winch. In my opinion the high speed just isnt powerful enough and you'll burn right through them. I prefer the old regular speed ones as a great all around reel, but youve got to find somewhere that still has them in stock, they won't last long im sure. If it was down to the high speed or the winch, get the winch every time. And these reels blow the curados out of the water.

Posts: 1184 Location: Iowa Great Lakes | 5:4:1, IMO the winch is to slow for jerkbaits, hard to keep up with a fish if your drifting or they make a run at the boat. I love my Revo's but will buy another Calcutta when my stock of 5:4 reels are gone...

Posts: 531 Location: Hugo, MN | I bought a 5.4 Revo Toro this summer for pounders and big tubes. It is a great reel for that. I threw some DCG's with it and thought it was on the slow side. However, I'm used to my Trinidad 14 for blades. I'm not sure what situation would demand a Winch. The 5.4 is pretty darn easy reelin' even with double 10's. I'm a fan of having speed available when I need it.

The Calcutta TE is one of the best reels on the market. It's built to last. It handles 10s and big plastics with ease. Lots of guys prefer the 5.1:1 gear ratio for picking up slack with big plastics. The downsides are the high price and the overall weight. Calcutta Bs are a better built, more-bearinged version of a Shimano Cardiff. Its a great reel, but you don't get the pulling power of the TE, it's closer to a regular reel.

Posts: 295 | If we're throwing calcutta TEs in the mix, the question should be: Would you take one calcutta te or 2 revo toros? I'll take a winch and a regular speed.

Would the revo toro that geared at 6.4-1 be ok for big baits like dawgs and big cranks like Jakes? Or is it to demanding on the reel? Anyone who has this specific reel tell me how you like it? I'm really stuck on which revo toro to get? 6.4 or 4.6 I wish I could get the one geared in 5-1 but my tackle shop can't get it and I'm Stuck dealing with him!

Posts: 1184 Location: Iowa Great Lakes | I don't care for the HS for rubber, little to fast to keep the baits down for my liking....On the other hand I feel the Winch is to slow to be able to pick up line when a fish hits coming twards the boat and you need to pick up slack fast... My rubber reel is currently a Calcutta, 2nd choice is the Revo in 5:4, I have contacts at Pure Fishing and even through them I can't find the 5:4 reels.....
