Hey you guys like what I see. Just a simple question.Do you find more fish casting parallelto the slop or do you get more casting directly into it.Does it vary on type of day like overcast, brite sun over, heavey waves.I seem to get more by casting parallel.I know the esox angler had a article on this just want to see what the mass opinion is on this .Dennis Blume

It seems that lately I have had better luck casting at right angles to the shore. I don't see nearly as many fish when casting parallel to the shore or weed lines. Don't know why, but was thinking the same thing the other day.

Lately I have been keeping the boat out in deeper water and casting into the weeds(with some contact)and bringing out to deep water.Seems a good percentage of the fish are suspended out from the weeds on the deep break!Last night right at dark in 18' of water right on the break hammered a 44 1/2"huge body(for summer) 1' down on a buctail. That fish was head`in into the weeds, but stopped in my boat for a quick picture! So I have been fish`in the break beyond the weed edge as I am not seeing fish right up in the slop(only pike) Good Luck Jeff

I agree with the staying in deeper water and casting to the weed line. Maybe it give a muskie the inpression that bait is trying to scurry into deeper water for safety. Plus, i think you can hit little pockets and turns better that way than paralleling.

I tend to start on the deep side of a weed line and fan casting into it from a cast and a half or so away. If that
doesn't work, I get tight to the edge and throw parrallel
to the edge with someone else fan casting over the top or beyond to the shallow side edge if it is reachable. Last year I couldn't buy a bite over a week vacation "up-north"
unless I was parked right over the middle of the weeds casting out toward deep water! "The only rule is that there are no rules, and the best time to go is when you can!"

If I am alone, or out with Steve Van Lieshout, I put the boat in a position to cast parallel, and fan cast into the slop with short, targeted casts, looking for pockets, open areas,, or vegetation that is a good canopy, but is relatively open underneath.

Otherwise, giving the other people in the boat first shot, or at least good water, allows that one must fan cast from further out.
