I'm curious if other brands that make a bulldawg type bait, like super D and I know tyrant tackle makes a similar bait, work as well as the original Bulldawg lure line. They obviously look very similar to us, but as we all know that just because a lure looks similar doesn't mean it gives or the same vibrations or calls the fish in same. Do these other lures worth as well as bulldawgs?

For mag size I like Super D's as much as or more than dawgs. For pounder size I prefer dawgs. Had a curly sue once without the internal harness and struggled with tuning. I like how dawgs work regardless of size.

Out of all the rubber, I like the dawgs the best - those Hellcats are pretty neat in shallow water, and the suzy suckers are a great search tool for locating stubborn fish when things are slow. But as for pure catching prowess, I am hard pressed to find rubber that catches like a dawg. Currently tossing a new pounder prototype. Pretty neat!

I'm a big fan of Shack Attack's Curly Sue. Very durable fish catcher available in about every color under the sun.

The Hard Head by H2O is another great option.

I like the bulldawgs but I have much better luck with medussas. They seem to be much more effective on the lake I fish and I would much rather throw them.

They do look very similar, but they all have a little different action and should be used at different times. I like the MagSuperDs when fish are aggressive as they have a real nice hopping action. I like mag-dawgs when fish are more nuertral as they have more of a gliding forward action. I've started fishing medussas and really like them as they have great hang time and move a lot of water with the multiple tails (especially the monster size). I am also seeing Medussas are getting good action on lakes that have seen a lot of other plastics as they are a little different. I also like HardHeads as they last forever and are basically 6 lures in one with the different weights and tail positions. It is a pretty good idea to have a handful of each and let the fish tell you which one is most productive.

We just used SuperDs for our trip last week and we killed pike and musky with them all week. Had better luck with the regular ones vs the magnum SuperDs but more of us were using the regular size too. Getting too old to throw the big half pound baits anymore.

Our 3 best colors were the RSD-4, RSD-5 and RSD-40. Seemed anything with gold was the key!

Ok, you get to a new lake. Assuming you have a wide variety of different brands, models, sizes, et cetera, and you don't have a confidence bait, and there isn't that one particular lure that excells at that particular lake, which one do you put on first, second, third, et cetera, and why?

I realize there's a million different factors involved, but I'm curious what everyone thinks.

One thing I noticed is that super D's seem to have a straighter tail and the bulldawgs curl a little more. In the water, the dawgs have a little better tail action while the D's tail is still moving nicely, they seem to stretch out more if you know what I mean. Not saying that would have any effect on the fish but probably more of a confidence thing. Even hanging on my rack in the basement, the D's tail hangs straighter and longer than the dawgs. Just an observation.

I had a couple of the Tyrant tackle rubber tail lures (whatever they're called) when they first came out and niether of them ran true. I know they did have some issues with that and maybe that's been addressed now.

I only have one Medussa and it looks awesome in the water but I haven't had any action on it yet.

Does anyone else have a problem with the tails on the Medussas fouling on the rear hook? I only have the mini version, so I can't speak for the regular and monsters.

I've definitely had more fouled casts with the double dawgs and medussas than I have any of the originals. The beauty of those lures is that you still have action from the other tails.

Chances of a dogball on a HardHead are pretty slim, so I assume you mean complete rubber baits.

Bondy Bait Company has a new casting bait coming out Oct 1st. It may be of interest to some of you folks. It's called a 'Bondy Meal Ticket'.

When things gets tough and bites are rare, I tends to use a D over Curly Sue's and others. The regular D's are perfect ripping baits, and can be fishes aggressively and fast without leaving the strike zone.

They are more durable than both Bulldawgs and Sue's, might not look as flashy as those, but they are awesome fishing tools.
