I used 80lb braided line for my first season of musky fishing and was wondering if it needs to be replaced yearly. its started to turn to a lighter shade of green so I thought it might have lost some strenght?

It's more of a judgement call than a hard and fast rule. I usually get about 2 seasons out of the spool, then strip it off and put it on backwards for one more year. To answer your question directly, I definitely don't think it needs to be changed yearly, but then again, I don't fish as often as some.

Every 2 years!! Use one end for one year, reverse the line on the spool and use the "new" line for a year as well.

It does degrade after use.

It depends on how much you are using the line. I have some powerpro on salmon rods that I'm sure is 6 years or older and I am still using it with total confidence. If you are doing a lot of casting and putting a ton of time on the water then the life of the line will be considerably less. Just keep an eye on the line, if you don't see any fraying or change in the basic structure of the line then it's still fine.

I do exactly what DR in VA does, and I always change or reverse my line just before it gets cold in October, used line holds water and wet hands in November can be a bad deal.

well, "now nobody get offended please" with PP, I used to reverse mine like others every year and replace usually in 2 years of use, try cortland spectron, Vicious or other brands and you will probably get more use with them then with PP, My vicious is 3 years and I cannot break it on purpose after trying hard just to test it.
