Was rotten on opener. Never saw a fish. Caught 25 in pike. Try fishing all around the large Island. Seems to hold fish around the whole thing. Good Luck!!

Posts: 32 Location: Brainerd, Minnesota | For some reason, Shamineau is tough early season like this. It's always been that way for me, for years. Haven't been there yet this year, but I'll probably try it next week and see what's up? www.bigfishhunt.com

Posts: 159 Location: NYC (and many weeks in MN during summer) | are all the lakes up there slow right now too; like Cedar, Sugar and Alex? Heading up there on Friday and will be in that area for a few days. I'm flying in from NYC for this and don't want to waste my time if there are other lakes that are "hotter" right now. Posts: 159 Location: NYC (and many weeks in MN during summer) | that's why I asked. Although I'm really eager to fish, I'm in no hurry to waste my time or money. My inlaws live in mpls and were coming for 3 weeks. I'll spend the first 5 days fishing. I've had lots of luck on these lakes, although never this early and worse yet, the late spring. I can go just about anywhere. Perhaps even cass or bemidji. Any suggestions? Randy

Posts: 785 | I don't fish any of the above mentioned lakes but if your coming to Minneapolis, and you plan on fishing, then go give it a try. You won't catch any not trying, and I can think of many times fishing a lake when it was tough and still coming away with a few nice fish. Weather looks good, water temps will be on the rise this week so you never know. Also more importantly there aren't a ton of lakes right know that ARE going to be hot. Some are but if you don't know which ones your better off being on a lake your familiar with. My three cents worth

NYmuskyhunter, Shoot me an email at [email protected], I can help you out.. I have not been on Sham this year, but over the past 3 years I have only been on the lake once, maybe twice, that I can think of without someone putting a fish in the boat. There are several different patterns that people do not use on Sham, and we have found some very specifc things those fish like on that lake.. Don't expect a 50"er though, the biggest fish I have seen on the lake was pushing the upper 40" class. I can also give you a few more ideas...
