Posts: 439 Location: Lake of the Woods, Morson, Ontario | August opened on our end with some really nice fish seen, but not enough hooked. Still a beast of a 52" made the week exciting for one boat out there. Several fish in the 46-47 range landed as well. Mostly rock rock rock now. A few still in the weeds, but most people focusing on rocks. Double 10s heating up...double 8s still working well also. Spinner baits getting more than their share of action. Had some topwater activity the last couple of evenings just after and just before dark. cool down today after another week of heat. Water clarity still quite good most areas. best is yet to come. get up here if you can. Edited by MyliesPlace(Justin) 8/7/2011 2:22 PM

Location: Not far enough north! | Just got back from six days on Sabaskong. The fishing was a little frustrating. I think water temps and the fact that we only had about 4 hours of clouds for the week was the worst of it. We only experienced one weather related feeding window were we boated two lost one and contacted five others in and hour. We were hoping for that every evening but it didn't pan out. We raised a lot of fish (93 different ones to be exact) and many of them several times but they were mostly lazy. We did get 20 in the net and lost about 8 others because they seemed to be nipping the baits. Most were hooked in the figure 8 and we had a couple marathon 8's one went hard and fast for about two minutes! There was no real good pattern all week just a few consistant spots. The windy side of rocks in the afternoons would show us several fish but they were gone by that evening when the wind died. Biggest fish boated this week was 48" most of the others were in the low 40s. Saw a couple pigs raised each one twice and then they vanished.... It was a great week despite the fishes mood. If you are heading up don't forget the cranks and jerk baits they were showing us fish when bucktails would not get a sniff. Rick

That sounds like a good week for one boat. I'd be thrilled with that. Maybe my expectations are low? Thanks for the frequent reports, Justin!

Posts: 439 Location: Lake of the Woods, Morson, Ontario | Fish are showing themselves regularly, but still not opening up like we'd hope. Rock and rock related structure should be your focus, but we did find a couple ones ones in weedy bays (catching one) while hiding from 15-20 MPH NW winds yesterday. Would likely not have even gone in there if the wind allowed us to be safely fishing other things. Reef Hawgs over the weeds and depthraiders cranked into the rocks produce the 2 landed and 2 strikes that didn't hook up. Bloom still not much of an issue most areas I have been, including north, west, east and south. It will depend on wind/current now. Very few boats out there, but there wil be plenty for the Chaputer Challunge coming up the week of Aug 20-27. Otherwise it will be like having nearly the whole lake to yourself out there. I love this time of the year. Good luck on the water.

Posts: 439 Location: Lake of the Woods, Morson, Ontario | Fish activity was been up and down the last couple of weeks. Several days of wind have made it tough, if not nearly impossible to safely/productively fish. Rocks have been the better structure, with crankbaits grinding into the rocks one of the ways to trigger fish. Several fish taken this way have just eaten without coming up and following like other baits. Three out of 4 fish (low to mid 40s) in my boat were taken this way over the weekend (perch pattern depth raider.) Water temps have cooled some with night time temps going down. Still seeing temps low to mid 70s in the afternoon when the sun shines bright. Bloom is starting to be a factor in some areas, especially when winds drop to nothing and allow it to float up to the surface. However, even a slight breeze makes most areas very fishable, especially considering the time of year. Good luck to all Chapter Challunge participants this week. Hopefully the wind will stay reasonable and allow everyone to get out out to their favourite honey holes and harass the muskies until the surrender.

Posts: 103 | It has been a "hit and spit" year for me. Like some other people have said, lots of followers and nippers, tough to get them into the bottom of the net though. Last week the surface temp went from 78 to 60 because of the cooler temps and wind followed by some more wind. I did get my largest for the summer though, 48.75". Posts: 103 | Thanks. She was already pretty fat. This fall she will be a tank. Unfortunately the motor is still acting up...
