I have enjoyed seeing others share the excitement of the children's first musky and looked forward to my turn. Well it finally happened. My 10 year son, Rhys, caught this nice 39" musky on a topraider last night. The cast before he caught this fish, as most 10 year olds would, he lost concentration, stopped reeling to talk to me and a musky, probable the same fish, came up and nosed his toipraider a couple of times and then left with a nice tail slap, as I was telling him to reel. Then, on the next cast he caught this one. I hope I have him hooked now.

Help how do I make the picture smaller to post?

Congrats to Rhys! And nice job by the guide as well. 39 is a really good start. Team Pepin/Pepin is going to be a tough combo to beat in the future.....couple of good sticks in the Boundary Waters Musky Club. Well done, can't wait to see the picture.

Congratulations! I know the feeling when one of your kids catches their first Muskie. It is awesome!

Be careful what you wish for. My oldest daughter, who is now eleven, caught her first Muskie last year and is now hooked on Muskie fishing. My youngest daughter, who is seven, almost caught a Muskie this year and has been lighting up the Northern Pike all year. I haven't had them out fishing for two weeks now and they have begun complaining about it - especially the oldest. My oldest is upset that I'm taking some friends to Mille Lacs tomorrow and she doesn't get to go along. My youngest will sit down next to me, hold my hand, and ask "Daddy, when I am going to catch a big Muskie?".

Fishing partners for life.

That is so awesome, my little boy is 6 1/2 years old right now, when we go out he's up front right next to me with his pole casting a rubber worm, soon as the casts aren't as wild I'll put on some thicker line and a rapala or a safety pin bait. Been waiting along time for him to show some interest and now I think it's there, can't wait to put him on his first, pretty sure that day will trump any 50+ in the boat. Now my 2 1/2 year old daughter I'm guessing will be whipping DCG's right next to me on the front deck by the time she's 5 years old, she has a zest about her that is just insane.

I have the perfect setup sitting on the side lines with his name all over it... I nice Abu 5600 morrum on a St.Croix Legend (original series) 7' MH Bucktail rod this combo is so incredibly light I'm thinking it will be perfect for him next year.

Congratulations Rhys and Kevin. It is an awesome thing to watch your child get their first fish! Another long term Boundary Waters Muskie Club member is my guess.

Congrats and thanks for sharing. My son caught his first muskie this year, unfortunately, I wasn't with him. Looking forward to his next one, when I am along.
