Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Check with the owner to see if all the updates have been done (fuel rails, I believe, were one item), and how many hours are on the engine. If the engine is lower hours and has been well maintained, it should be a good purchase.
If the engine is very high hours and hasn't been well maintained by a Merc certified mechanic, I'd say no. You can have a Merc certified mechanic put the engine on the computer to confirm. I'd do that before buying. |

Location: Warroad, Mn | I have a 2001 225 Opti. They weren't bad motors. I have around 1750 hours on mine, but put a new short block on in 2006, and rebuild it again in 2008. I've put almost every replaceable part on the engine that you can put on. But that's not too much differance than any other motor I've had.
Like Steve says, if it's been well maintained and updated, and not too many hours (200-400 or less). They aren't bad engines. Get a good mechinics opinion.

| i have a 225 opti 2001..............great motor as long as you let it warm up everytime its started if you dont thats where the problems will come in. i always just let it run for a min. or before put into gear |
