Posts: 512 | Ok guys, just got my boat back from the dealer, moved axle forward 9 or 10 inches, so my tongue weight is 160-170, down from 320, so thats about right i believe.. ill post before and after pics, plus one of the problem i talk about below. However, when i put it in the garage, i released the pressure from the winch strap, and the bow of the boat raised up about an inch or two off the bow stop, and the whole trailer flexed from where the front of the boat rests on the front roller.. Is this normal? Then, when i tightened it back down, it pulls the bow down harder onto the rollers which are in the last pic i attached, and that is when the trailer flexes.. I hope i explained that so you can understand it.. it pulls the boat down farther, even though its all ready resting on the front guide rolls. sorry to bug ya all again, just dont remember this on any of my other boats! thanks again Dave Edited by Dave T. 8/18/2011 6:09 AM Attachments ---------------- ![]() ![]() ![]()

Dave, why would release the winch strap ?? Thats a no no. I release the transom straps when my boat sits for long periods of time and leave a sign on the boat to remind me they are off.If I get in the boat while on the trailer I always tighten up the transom straps.Shorelander has a good web site and tells you which of their trailers are for what brand and model of boat. Make sure you have the correct trailer first. There is also good info you can download off the Shorelander web site. If you do not have the correct trailer long trips towing will not be fun. What did the dealer that adjusted the trailer have to say about it ?

Posts: 512 | Its one of the trailers that they recommend for that boat on their website I think i just need to adjust the bow stop forward and up a bit so the boat isnt pushing down on that front roller so much. should just rest on it i believe Dave

Click the "details" link on the trailer you have, then check out the "Assembly/Usage Manual" and "Owner's Manual". Everything you need will be found there.

Posts: 2687 Location: Hayward, WI | Dave, I am no trailer expert but I think you are on the right track with just moving the bow stop. I have converted a couple trailers from roller to bunk, and when I did, I just let the boat sit on the bunks as it wanted, and adjusted the bow stop to hit the eye/hook attackment properly. Has been working out for me! Tucker

Posts: 3508 Location: Elk River, Minnesota | Hi Dave, +1 on adjusting the winch post. When the boat is on the trailer, those bow rollers support the entire front of the boat and should allow the keel of the hull to rest on them without any more downward pressure on them. When a trailer is set up, the boat would be resting there and the winch post is brought to the bow and adjusted so that the winch strap pulls down on the bow when the strap is tightened up....but it should only pull down a touch AFTER the bow has hit the bow stop, just to keep the bow down in the bow stop. There should be no extra pressure put on the middle rollers to pull the bow down to the winch post. That extra pressure will destroy your rollers quickly, and puts undo stress on your keel, which over time, could actually do damage to both boat and trailer... Steve

Posts: 512 | Yes, i was thinking the same thing.. Also have been looking at the trailer manual for tips.. Just knew that wasnt right when i released the pressure from the strap and the boat went up!! Also the way the trailer flexed up and down when i tightened the winch strap.. Not good.. Always did that before and the boat would barely move.. I will be adjusting the winch post accordingly.. just hope there isnt any damage from this trailer being set up incorrectly!! thanks again guys Dave

Am I thinking backwards? Doesn't moving your axle BACK give you MORE tongue weight? Been a long week already, maybe I'm just befrazzled upstairs.
