Posts: 87 Location: Brainerd,MN | Heading up to Sabaskong in a couple weeks. I've never been there and I'm picking up a LOTW chip this week. Question is.... which is better or more accurate... Navionics or Lakemaster?

Posts: 3508 Location: Elk River, Minnesota | Hiya, I believe either one would do extremely well for sabaskong bay...I also believe navionics completed the entire lake whereas lakemaster did not back on the 2010 release. Nice thing with Navionics is you can get the hotmaps north chip and lake of the woods is on it...you don't need to buy a separate chip just for lake of the woods. Steve

Posts: 153 Location: Antigo Wi. | Was up to sabaskong a couple of weeks ago, got the lakemaster chip before I went. Very happy with the detail and found to be very accurate. You won't go wrong with either chip, although the extra $50 was helpful to pay the gas bill for the boat.

Posts: 79 | When I run accross Sabaskong I run three maps across my console as I have three graphs. I run the Navionics with the North up zoomed out. The Navionics looks simular to my hot maps of LOTW. I also have the sirus weather overlay and can see storms coming, etc... I run this on my left graph. On my middle graph I split the screen and run the lake master chip zoomed in with track up and have my sonar on. On my right graph I run the lake master track up and zoomed out a bit, but not so far that I can't see rocks etc.. The Navionics chip is simular to the hot maps of Sabaskong. Lake Master will show much more detail than the Navionics in Sabaskong bay. On my last trip up there I still managed to find a rock with my skeg that was not on either the Navionics or Lakemaster map. It was close to shore though. So caution is always a must when navigating off a main route. Hope this helps. Attachments ---------------- ![]()

It only took me about 2 seconds to recognize Buff and Rabbit. Lakemaster is my choice up there.

Posts: 46 Location: Hayward, WI | I also have used both but still have found plenty of rocks on WF & Sabaskong. Even found some the maps don't have either. 10 days ago found the rock that I hit in '96 but the 3 huge rock islands with trees on them didn't show up on the LM chip. After about 10 years, I should have a good chip after I add all the icons. The rocks that I hit showed up on the LM chip but weren't on the maps. Go figure!!

Posts: 243 | Wow, Ande----that's a lot of graphs. Anyway, I was just up there and my Navionics read true in my HDS everywhere. There are definitely some spots you could hit running up to islands, but we were just fine everywhere. I'm sure there are plenty of dingers out there that we missed, but it worked well for me.

Posts: 79 | I admit 3 graphs are an overkill, but I added the HDS system w structure scan and sirus weather later and decided to leave the LCXs in place.

Posts: 692 Location: Pelican Rapids, MN | Used both Score 1-10 Nav - 6 Lakemaster - 9.5 Both are good chips, but the Lakemaster has much more attention to detail!
