Location: Minnesota | What would be a good degreaser for cleaning reel parts, providing that it's safe for both plastic and metal parts...
Many thanks... |

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | On reel frames and side plates I use Dawn and a brush, and hit it with some Non-C. Brake Cleaner. When U are done U have a very clean parts that will hold grease and oil for a long time. If U use WD40 and don't wash it off with Dawn, the grease and oil will not hold as well, plus WD40 will gum up overtime. On bearings and small parts I will use a U-Sonic Cleaner with a 50-50 mix of Dawn and water, then follow up clean with bearings only in a small jar of ACETONE in the U-Sonic, then dry them with a hair dryer and lube with 1 drop of oil or grease. Be careful Shimano 400B Thumb Bar is made from a plastic that will melt with a strong cleaner. I lot of guys use Simple Green but that stuff will get into the frame and side plates and will stain them if you soak them for a long time. |
