Subject: best way - power left in trolling batteries?

Hello everyone.

What is the best way to know how much power you have left with your trolling motor? I have a Minnkota Auto Pilot 65 lbs thrust. When I am running the trolling motor and I push the power check button on my trolling motor it says low power. But when I stop and I press it again it says almost fully charged. And this was after running it in very windy conditions with the auto pilot on for almost 5 hours!!! That can't be right? What is a sure method to know how much power you have left in your batteries? Is there an inexpensive solution or product anyone can recommend (and where can I buy it?).

I have an old boat with no fancy controls.

Thanks for any help you can offer.
