I hav e a 2005 merc 9.9 prokicker and when i run it i squeeze the bulb till it gets hard and prime it twice and it starts right up. After about 10-15 min of running you can slowly watch the fuel filter get air in side of it and the bulb on the fuel line becomes softer. I t will eventaly start to die off due to lack of fuel but if you squezze the bulb and push more gas into the fuel filter it will start running normal untill the process repats it self. There are no holes in the fuel line as i checked that and had replaced the fuel filter. Wondering if it could be the fuel pump is bad or something on the carb. Any ideas or thought would be appeciated
Thanks Wayne

Hiya,

Have you tried a different fuel line from the tank to the motor? It could be something as little as a new priming bulb. If you have access to another tank with another hose to connect to your motor, I would start there...if the motor works like it should, problem solved. If not, then you can work up the line. If air is in the fuel filter, I would say the problem is before the fuel filter itself..

Something similar happened on my older merc last year and it was that the bulb developed hair line cracks and lost pressure. I bought a new bulb but by the end of the season, the new one also had checking and lost pressure. I went to a merc dealer and got a new bulb and line. The parts guy said that many older bulbs were not engineered to handle the corrosive effect of ethanol. The latest bulb and line were made from some material that is supposed to be much more resistant to ethanol.

That was my thought too.

I had this issue on my Lund when I bought it new. $30 for a new gas line and prime ball and it ran and still runs like a champ.
