Hey all ! Im new to the website and new to muskie fishing. Anyone from Va on here ? I will mostly be fishing the New river and the Clinch river for muskie, Any advise would be GREATLY apreciated ! I have done a little muskie fishing about 10 years ago and still have what little tackle I had then. Im looking for a mentor, some one that is familiar with fishing for river muskie. Im interested in what times of the year are best and what lures to throw and how to use them. Thanks, Nathan

IM from VA and i mainly fish the lower New river. i have my best luck in april and may. i use a variety of soft plastics like the bulldawgs (all sizes), medussa's, jerkbaits like suicks and different gliders as well as different bucktails single and double blades large and small. the new is a great musky river i caught my pb out of the it 49.75 inches and 38 pounds. the VA state record also came from the new which was 53 inches and 45 pounds 8 ounces.

I'm from Christiansburg . Fish the New weekly. Water temp is pushing 80 I'm going to let'm rest til September. Rural Retreat Lake and Hungry Mother have a good musky population and both are a little closer for ya. With a couple of 50's being caught last year Rural Retreat shows lots of promise. Big Rubber and big blades are hard to beat right now. Check out Shack Attack and Glittertail lures. The Suzy Sucker (13") with the big paddle tail will put some fish in the boat. With the lack of tackleshops in the area check out Muskytackleonline.com. Aaron has the best deals. Good Luck and CPR.
