i'm going to try a red light headlamp this year based on a recommendation i received. have any of you tried it?
I've used them in the surf before and they work well even in poor conditions.

| I definitely recommend the red light. When the LED headlamps first came out several years ago I got one and tried it out (white light, not red). This was in early summer, June I think so the bugs were out in force. Once it had gotten dark I put on the light and switched it on. Instantly every bug on the lake was on my face.
Needless to say I got a red one and love it. It does draw a few bugs but hardly worth mentioning. |

| That's what I heard about the red lamp. It doesnt spook them like the white light does. It will also help with the figure 8 when it the lure gets to the boat. I'll be able to see it better. |

Location: Brainerd, MN 56401 | I only turn on my headlamp after a fish has been hooked or to change a lure. Don't see any need for red, white works just fine. |

| Avoid leaving your headlamp on while fishing......... You may see a follow you wouldnt have, but I doubt its ging to eat your bait.........
I have caught 1, and watched 1 eat with headlamps on, but have seen WAY more turn away when you shine them with it.. |

Location: New Berlin,Wisconsin,53151 | Has anyone ever been stopped for a red or green light by the lake police? A friend of mine was fishing on Pewaukee at night with a green lite headlamp was stopped for what the Lake enforcement said was a miss-informative navagation light. They didn't give him a ticket but told him to turn off the headlamp. I would imagine that a red light would do the same message of miss information?

| I use a red head lamp also. Keep it off while fishing and turn it on when changing lures and moving around the lake. Will save batteries. Having trouble running leader into rod tip turn the light on. I stay away from glow beads on the leader and rather use the red LED. If you can angle the light upward that way as you watch your retrieve it keeps the light beam angled upward towards the sky and not down in the water. If you need light just tap it down. |

If you are using your headlamp to watch your lure come to the boat, then maybe red will spook them less, but I prefer light conservation, let your eyes adjust to the darkness. ONLY turn on your light to net a hooked fish or change lures. |

| We use red led's on the low setting continuously at night. I have not noticed any fish ever spooked by the lights. Bro in law caught his PB last year on the eight with the light on. If they hit on the eight in broad daylight with you standing over them swinging a 9 foot rod and standing on a 20 foot boat, I don't think the little red light is going to make any difference.
Others may have opposite opinions, but that is our experience.
