Can anyone clue me in on the best process and best paint to use for painting bucktail blades? I have been using a primer and can of spray paint but it doesnt hold up to good. Its there a specific clear coat I should be using? Any insight would be very appreciated.

I use a white basecoat then createx water-based paint. After the paint is dry, I use a coat of Devcon 2 ton epoxy. You can also add some metallic glitter to this if you want. It adds a little weight to the blade but holds up really well.

I personally haven't had blades I have painted hold up well. I have used 3 different clear coats and they all will chip off eventually. I think powder coating would be the way to go. Oh- I was talking about twin blades that always clank and clack on each other. A single painted blade will last longer but try everything out and make your own decisions. Best luck in this crazy world of bait making!

blades done properly will hold for years. they need to be baked, and the correct clears applied.

I powder paint blades, then baked them in the oven, then put Devcon 30 minutes epoxy on top. It holds well for quiet a while, but can't say for years.
