Why hasn't anyone previously recognized that a block of wood with hooks and a propeller would land monster Muskies?

Location: Lake Country, Wisconsin | I'm still a little skeptical...I'm not skeptical that it catches fish, I don't doubt that. I'm just questioning whether the square box is really doing the attracting of the fish, or they are just reacting to the Double 10 blades which we all know are fish magnets. Also maybe someone can make some adjustments to this bait to make it even more effective....a floating ball of marabou with double 10's behind it instead of a square flat box perhaps?
just a thought...and yes I still want one, the hype has me intrigued |

Location: SE, WI. | I would think the wake draws them in, and the blades and skirt gives them a target. I would think a lightweight cowgirl with big blades waked would do the same thing, only a slight different sonics. Pretty Gawdy...;) |

| I haven't had mine in the water much yet but it looks awesome! I was talking to the guy who makes them at the MN show and he said the large majority of the hits are on the board and not the bucktail in the back. Several of the used ones he had were full of teeth marks and the pictures had the board in the fish's mouth. |

Location: Hugo, MN | I think the Coot is a great bait. It gives you the ability to slow roll a double ten on the surface with a LARGE profile. What is surprising about THAT being effective?
By the way, the Coot Man got his first 2 fish of the year on it this week. A 48 and 49.5". Just sayin'. |

Location: Hugo, MN | The board is balsa, and is super buoyant. It allows you to slow roll the double 10 on the surface, all the while providing a huge profile similar to a duck. While it is goofy looking, it flat out works. If you think it's stupid, don't buy one. I'll be throwing mine a bunch this summer. |

Location: Minnesota | The only downfall to the coot is that it's very difficult to find a way to transport them. I've got mine in an old shoe box until I come up with a better way to store it.
Any suggestions? |

Location: Antioch, IL | Hats off to the deisgner. No doubt that the coot has and will get nailed. When that thing is moving through the water a fish is not seeing a block of wood with a ddouble ten on the rear. It sees a big profile, pushing a big wake with a lot of turbulance and commotion in the back end.....very much like what the name would suggest. a big bird out for a swim. I would also think the board (body) would get more stikes then the blades (feet). If I were a fish and wanted to killl a bird I would not aim for the feet.
I would be interested in seeing different board designs. (various nose shapes, textured / fluted under side to the boards...create different wakes or get the bait to wander......(depending on where you live and how many hooks are allowed, maybe run some smaller(baby) coots inline behind the big one. Why go for a tough old bird when you can taste FRESH BABY!....sorry |

Location: Hugo, MN | Pat has been experimenting with different designs for years. I have a few of his early efforts. You think the coot is ugly, you should see some of the prototypes that didn't work. There are two different sizes that he has settled on, and I've found that both are effective, but the smaller one is just a bit easier to cast. The big one trolls better. They both have double ten blades, just different bodies. |
