I am heading up to the Park Falls area for a few days next week with my father and best friend. We love fishing for muskie but need help catching some... We usually fish during the mid summer but going up in spring is new. Wondering what lures to throw and if you know of any good spots on area lakes. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Happy Hunting.

fish the 9-mile landing of the pixley flowage and use twitch baits (crane, swim-whiz), gliders (hellhound, mr. automatic) worked slowly when the water is cold. try to focus on the stump fields and back-edy's and current locations. it's a fantastic body of water and you should get a lot of action especially when there is some amount of current. i've experienced shut-down times when there isn't much current tho ... but, usually it's a great time with a lot of action.

OR... since 9 mile landing at Pixley Flowage doesn't exist you could try 6 mile landing at Crowley Flowage. There is a 9 mile landing on the river but that's small craft only. All the North Fork Flowages (Pixley, Crowley, Park Falls) are good right now. We've been finding fish in 5' or less on little bucktails and twitchbaits.

and there you have it ... always thought it was 9 and we call it pixley. i remember camping in the yard of the bar right across the street there and being allowed access to the bathroom overnight by the old guy who owned it. the roof was barely holding on toward the end. that was one of the coolest local crowds there ever was. sad that guy died alone ... you remember his name?? the whole place has been developed so much it's not quite what it used to be ... been 4 or 5 years since i've been back there, but we always did really well especially on opening weekend which was tradition for many years with some good friends.

His name escapes me right now... Nice guy. There is a nine mile tavern that used to be quite an experience. Oxbo is a fun place too.

that's why i always got confused but we always called the 6-mile by the name of pixley and then we had the one we called the papermill pool and then smith lake ... some fantastic fishing. never caught any really huge fish and a mid-40's was considered big but i always loved that place.

Smith Lake is also called Pixley Flowage, named for the dam the made the flowage. Crowley dam makes Crowley Flowage, AKA six mile Flowage. Every year somebody always manages to catch a 49 to 50 incher out of there, but you're right, lots of 30 to 40 inchers, decent chance for a mid forties, and easy to forget you're living in the 21st century.

Butternut can be fun as well. The fish should shallow and a firetiger bucktail seems to work well for me. Try a swimbait also, quite a few have shown up on them in the last couple years on Butternut. There is a nce place to eats and have a cold one on the Southeast side of the lake as well. I love it up there........
