Location: TC Metro / NW WI | I bought a boat with LCX 112 (10" color) at the helm and a lms 320 (5" b/w)at the bow. I am considering changing out the lms 320 for something a little bigger w/color...maybe a used 7" screen to keep costs lower? Like a LCX 25? Does this make sense or should i go another direction?
This is my first boat, so I'm not overly familiar with the tradeoffs between the 25-38 models.
Thanks! |

Location: Kodiak, AK | Unless you can get an LCX for dirt cheap or free, go with HDS. Especially a 25C...great unit, but no longer supported by Lowrance. I'm not just talking warrantee...they won't even fix them! So if/when it craps itself, you're done. You could consider a 27C maybe, but they're on a couple of years behind the 25, so it won't be long before they don't even service them either. I'd go HDS. You can find used HDS units already and you could pick up a 5 or 7 for fairly affordable. LCX were great and I loved mine. But their time has passed and they've already been forgotten by Lowrance as far as service is concerned. |

| Maybe a dumb suggestion but it will cost you nothing. I put my big screen (7") up on the bow and use an older 5" LMS on the helm - mainly for the GPS. I do most of my fishing casting from the bow so I would rather have the better unit up there at my disposal when I am fishing. I split the screen with sonar / gps with much better visibility than I can get with the 5" display. I can still easily see the front display from the helm when motoring or trolling - even better in your scenario with a 10" screen. I have a large digital overlay for depth so I can see the number easily when driving. I use a transom mounted sonar for the front unit so it does not matter if the trolling motor is stored or deployed. |

Location: TC Metro / NW WI | Thanks for the input guys...Most of the used lcx's I've seen so far do seem spendy - I agree spending the extra bucks makes sense.
I like the idea of switching the monitors too - I mostly cast...you get spoiled looking at a 10" color screen then a 5" b/w! |
