I have an 07 Trailblazer with the 4.2L inline 6. I'm looking hard at 617s as they're the perfect size for my fishing. I know the trailblazer can technically handle the weight (1540 lbs dry), but is it too much to tow once or twice a week? Most towing will be on the highways in and around the twin cities. I don't want to really beat on the trailblazer if it will wear on it really bad. Thanks.

I had seen a few trailblazers and other suv towing 618 or 680/681. I m sure 617 will be fine.

No problem BUT make sure you have a transmission cooler and change your tranny fluid (does GM offer a full syn trans fluid?) every two years....30,000 miles max. when you are towing. If you have under 50k miles I'd run Mobil 1 SUV full syn motor oil..whatever is the recommended weight for your motor. Do not to in overdrive!

I tow my 617 with a 01 mercury mountaineer, it is the 5.0 liter V8 and I think it tows just fine. I wouldn't really want to tow anything much bigger however. I would think you could pull the boat with your trailblazer, but it would be at the upper end of what I'd recommend...

I have towed my 617DVS with an extended Trailblazer going on 5 years with the inline 6. No problems to speak of. Pretty much all my fishing is in the TC also.

You will not win any drag races, but you should be OK.

LOL, that is exactly what I say about our Trailblazer. I have a 19' Alumacraft Tournament Sport that I have pulled (not my regular tow vehicle) with our TB. Mine has the 3.42 rear end so that definitely doesnt help the low end in pulling situations.
It pulls it just fine. Make sure you dont use overdrive which I think most people with these smaller tow vehicles are aware of. I sometimes do, but I just make sure to watch the tach so its not shifting all the time.

I never use cruise. The computer cant predict a hill so all of a sudden it just hammers down. If I am not using cruise I can vary my speed accordingly like in advacne of a hill so I dont overwork the engine, etc.

It will pull that boat just fine. I wouldnt want to do it every day, but it will be fine.

You will be fine towing, no problems.

The only problems you might encounter are loading/unloading the boat. Any well maintained launches will be fine but I had issues with my Envoy ( basically a twin of the TB) and Rangers in certain kind of shallow/sandy launches...those included getting stuck and not having enough power to back the boat in far enough....9 times out of 10 no issues, just certain lakes deep in the brush I had trouble getting onto

Thanks guys. Hopefully it works okay because I pulled the trigger on the boat yesterday. I'm just under 50K miles on the Trailblazer. I'm going to have the transmission fluid changed to full synthetic this weekend and possibly add a tranny cooler.

What would be an appropriate hitch for this rig?

My bro has towed my 620 multiple times with his trailblazer. Usually shorter distances, but no issues. I believe he has the same motor as you as well. You should be good to go.
