Location: MN | I assume you know that you are looking at two entirely different price ranges. The LT $330 and $220 for the Elite Tech. I am not sure of Fenwick's warranty, but St Croix offers a full lifetime warranty on all of their LT rods. If you're like me and happen to break a rod or two, this can save you a lot of money. Replacing it usually costs about $50 if you register the rod. The another factor is the rod power. I could only find an XH of the Fenwick 8'6," so I take it thats the rod you are looking at. The Big Nasty on the other hand is a Heavy power. The Heavy power of the St Croix, plus the extra 6" will help fling smaller, lighter baits out there, while still handling cowgirls and mag bulldawgs easily. The Heavy power of the St Croix will allow the rod to have more bend when you have a fish boat side, thus giving the fish more play, while keeping tension on the line. The stiffer XH Fenwick will bend boat side, but you will have to be more aware of keeping tension on your line. If you have the money, which most of seem to magically find when it comes to fishing gear, I would go with the St. Croix Big Nasty between the two.

Location: Hugo, MN | It's really a personal preference thing. They're both nice rods, but very different. The Fenwick rods are a bit softer actions than the St. Croixs. I do like the rubberized cork handles on the Fenwick rods. It's not an apples to apples comparison. I'd lean toward the Big Nasty, but that's just me. It comes down to what rod feels better to you, and what you plan on using it for. |
