Posts: 427 Location: Planet Meltdown | Hello to all, Just wanted to introduce myself. I have not yet caught my first muskie but have had a few encounters. I just got back from a week long trip to the French River, Canada and fished them hard all week. Had a few followers and had one get off but no Muskies in the boat. I have to say this is probably the hardest fish to catch I have ever fished for but that only makes me more motivated. Anyways just wanted to introduce myself before unloading any questions. haha BTW I'm located in Queens, NY ......yeah not many Muskie spots around but I do lots of fishing in PA and soon I will hit up some lakes in NJ and NY. -Brian Edited by brianT 6/28/2011 11:16 PM

Posts: 1169 Location: New Hope MN | took me 3 yrs to get my first... of course i was 12yrs old and it was 94' but still... Hire a guide, join muskies inc, and attend seminars to shorten the learning curve. I'm sure if you post your location, someone will take you out and show you the ropes. good luck!

Posts: 427 Location: Planet Meltdown | Thanks for the tips guys and welcomes. I hired Dan Colomby while I was in Candada (awesome guide btw) and learned a great deal from him. Looking forward to applying what I've learned to future outings. Also going to join muskies inc. noob - if it were a fish of 10,000 casts......I would have caught 10 already haha

Posts: 427 Location: Planet Meltdown | Haha good stuff fellas. My poor wife is in for it. Haha. Like most of my hobbies that cost lots of money & time so I guess I'm right at home here.

The "run fast, run far" advice is wise but yer beyond that point already. Sooo.... The best advice is that you don't let the eventual x-wife have ANY idea of how much you've spent on your fishing gear. Am I rite? Divorced guys feel free to chime in.

Posts: 3913 | From another perspective, buy so many rods/reels and guns and keep them all scattered (but in a safe with the guns) that your wife totally loses track of what you own. My x underestimated my investment in fishing and hunting gear by about 80%. Beeeaaattch was off the mark by more than $15K. Sage advice.

I do my fair share of surf casting Long Island / Montauk each year so I can relate to the cost of Musky fishing......other than the boat, I am for the most part geared up for musky fishing. Just trying to get out there asap and pop that cherry. And the wife is totally OK with the fishing expenses.......it's the designer pythons and boas that I breed where the issues come into play.......and if you thought Muskie fishing carried a hefty price tag........
