Location: Athens, Ohio | Is there a particular style or type of leader to make glide baits work/glide better?
Should I be using flouro, braided, or single strand type leader? Length? I noticed on some of the smaller baits the Stealth Flouro leaders really decreased the action.
Should I attach a split ring to all glide baits?

Location: APPLETON, WI | There are actually a few "jerkbait" leaders a.k.a. "walk the dog" leaders out on the market right now.
Quite a few people do use a simple split ring to attach the leader directly to the bait. I actually used Stealth Tackle's "Walk the Dog" leader last year and had no issues getting my baits to do a fairly wicked glide across the surface of the water. Plus, I love the #5 Stay-Lok connection they use. Very simple, heavy duty and again I've not had any issue at all. |

| They say solid wire leaders work best, but I have tried a few and a short (12") flouro leader just seems to work better for me the way I work them. I think it is just a matter of try a few different things to see what works best for you. |

Location: S.Wisconsin | I would say its more the amount of slack line than the leader imo. I can work many glides with flouro or wire and never notice a change in action. My jerk rod has a solid wire leader and that is what I use most of the time but I will use my other rods that have flouro leaders as well. Some gliders will glide out farther than others regardless of the leader used. Hope this helped a bit |

Location: Hugo, MN | Gliders work better when they are slightly tail heavy. When you add a heavy leader, it changes the bait's center of gravity, and can alter how it glides. If you don't like the way a bait works with your prefered leader, you can try putting a heavier hook on the back of the bait, or adding 1/8th ounce of lead to the tail. It can make a huge difference in how easily the bait glides.
Generally with a glide bait, you don't need a ball bearing swivel on the leader. Go with a solid ring instead. This eliminates quite bit of weight from the leader, thus allowing the glider to balance the way it was designed to. A ball bearing swivel weighs about 1/20th of an ounce. Seems pretty insignificant, but it sits out in front of the bait a foot or so, thus it changes the center of gravity a bit more than you'd think.
Also, as mentioned above, make sure to give the bait slack line between twitches. It allows the bait to move without trying to pull the line thru the water, too. |
