I was getting the boat ready today and noticed a small seepage of fuel coming from what looks like the carburetor bowl. Appears to be leaking from the very top of the bowl. I am fairly new to outboard maintenance so Im not sure if this is normal or a bad gasket or a bigger problem. The boat started on first try and ran normal. The fuel was substantial enough to create a small puddle in the bottom of the engine compartment. Any advice?? Anyone in the Madison area want to trade some boat maintenance tips for some beer or baits.

There is a gasket that seals between the bowl and the carb body. I would recommend just getting a gasket kit for the carb and replacing them all while you have the carb off.

Mad Musky,

I had the same thing happen with my motor. I have a 90 40hp Merc. Classic. There is a carb gasket kit, which is pretty cheap. That should fix it and it is not ot very difficulty to do either.
