I'm planning on getting a new Terrova this spring which I've heard good things about. I'm trying to decide if i should get a good quality on board charger when i get it hooked up. Do they make a big difference as far extending the charge life (battery) during a day and are they are hard on the batteries. I always feel like i'm trying to conserve my batteries during a long day of fishing and if it's windy everyone knows how that can take its tole. If you do recommend them what would you recommend.

80# Thrust Terrova
24 Volt- 2 good quality batteries up front

Thanks everyone!

I run a 2 bank 10 amp on mine, plugged in as soon as I get home from the lake or to the dock when staying away from home. IMO well worth the cost, todays smart chargers are invaluble just plug them in and forget it till you fish again. Nice when you come home at midnight and plan on being on the water again at sunrise knowing your bateries are charged and ready, and not having to worry about draining them in a days time. I ran an 80# Maxxum Pro last season and even on a windy long day on the water never ran out of juice, 80# Terrova will be on there this year and never expect that to run out of juice on any given day.....

Shaley,

thanks for the feedback! What i'm more curious about is the ones that actually charge your batteries out on the water when running the main motor from spot to spot. On board charger may not be the correct term? The main motor actually charges the trolling motors.

Thanks!

My understanding on those are unless you make long runs alot they arent that great, 5-10 minute runs and altinators that are only big enough to keep the motor running and put a small charge back in the cranking battery is the problem.

I looked into 1 of those when I first bought my boat 4 years ago and came to the same conclusion that shaley did. I opted not to purchase one, but would love to hear your feedback if you actually purchased 1.
