I ordered this rod a couple of weeks ago and am on my way to pick it up right now. I have been told both that this rod is graphite entirely and that this rod has a glass mix. Anyone know for sure exactly why Okuma has designated this their "trolling" rod when there is an identical 8' rod listed in their EVX Musky line up? Thanks in advance.

The EVX trolling rod is glass.

The bag it comes in and the graphics on the blank say it is graphite.

Interesting... maybe they changed since '08 when I aksed about those in a chat on here.

Will_Schultz: What series would you suggest for trolling rods?
Okuma_Mark: We have one trolling rod in the EVX series
Okuma_Mark: it was developed by a candian guy.... it is far from what most guys use in the states
Okuma_Mark: I am going to be working with Dougj to see what we need to bring out for trolling
Will_Schultz: Is the EVX trolling rod a glass rod or just glass scrim?
Okuma_Mark: Glass

I am still confused with this also. Even though it says Graphite, just wondering what separates this rod from the identical one in their EVX line up.

The EVX-"T"-801H is a glass rod. It's the only glass rod that we have in the line up. The screen printing that is on that rod was a "generic" label that slipped past us in production. I mentioned this to the product department and it has been addressed.

As far as an "identical" rod in the line up... There are two 801H's... One is the EVX-"C"-801H and the other is the EVX-"T"-801H.... although they are both 8 feet long and both have an "H" rating... they are far from being the same rod... the trolling rod (or "T") is glass and the casting rod (or "C") is graphite. The actions are vastly different between the two models.

If you have any other questions... please let me know.

I just picked up another one of these rods, the line weight rating is different slightly and everything from the first guide up is also off, as well as the rod being slightly longer there's no identification marking on the eyes like the first one I bought which reads ALPS on the first guide, same number of guides and they look to be the same.

If you need a great line counter to go with that rod- pick up a new Okuma Catalina!! It's a great line counter. I have stoped using my Shimano Tekotas since I started using the Catalinas!! Way smoother and the one way drag for letting line out has made setting up multiple spreads easier

I put a 30DLX Convector on it and plan to upgrade from the 20DLX Magda Pro on my other EVX trolling rod to another Convector in the near future. You are right though the Catalina is very nice.

How is the Okuma glass rod for trolling for those who have used it? How is the backbone to tip ratio/solid backbone to a softer tip? How have they held up for you?

Thanks
