I live in West Lafayette, IN and was wondering if they're are any Muskie lakes on the east side of Illinois south of chicago. I go up to north Webster, barbee, and tippy but was looking for something potentially closer.
Any thoughts?

Lake Mingo is in Vermilion County and Mill Creek is in Clark County.
Either of those lakes could fit the bill for you.

Mill Creek is a tough lake. They don't stock very many to begin with. The lake only gets 350 fish for a 740 acre lake. Also the wanna be pro kevin van dam bass fishermen kill every muskie they catch. Which really sucks. I use to say if I caught a nice 7lb bass up I would fillet it on my tailgate in front of all of them. My $.02

Mingo is actually closer anyway. Any thoughts on that?

Location: Chicago, IL
Mingo is a pretty small body of water and the average fish size is definitely under 40". I'm not sure it would be worth the drive from IN, but hey- checking out new water is always a good experience. It has been two years since I've been on the lake but I believe there's a horsepower restriction. I personally drive to your neck of the woods from Chicago because of the shot at larger fish... just saying.

Mill Creek is a 731 acres lake and first stocked in 1999. This lake was stocked with 366 - 11" muskie in 2007. Max depth of 60' and average depth of 22 feet. It has abundant gizzard shad and white suckers. Muskie of over 48" were reported in 2007.

Mingo is 170 acres and was the first body of water selected for Project Green Gene in 2002. In 2008, Mingo received 170 - 11" muskies. The muskies in this lake are exhibiting great growth rates and survival. The Spring 2007 netting survey produced 98 muskie to/over 40".
