| I have a '93 50hp Johnson that won't run for crap at idle. I have had it into five differant shops and they can't find any thing wrong. My last attempt was to buy some Amsoil and put it into the gas tank and unhook the oil inj. from the motor but the low oil alarm went off and the engine would not rev above 1000rpm so I put the line back on and the alarm stopped and I could take off again. I was wondering if I should get new carbs or is there anything else I should try. Thanks for any help. |

| Try cleaning the carbs with carb cleaner. Could be bad gas. Do you live in an area that uses reformulated gas? If so you should get a water/fuel seperator. Also, the reformulated gas breaks down sooner than the old reliable gas. If you're not lucky enough to fish very often you should put stabil in your gas. I've been told that as little as two weeks is enough time that stabil should be used. Also, check your spark plugs, but I'm sure that they did that when you brought it in. |

| I had a 92' Evinrude 40hp with the same problem, What I ended up doing was going to my local omc dealer and picking a product called omc fuel system cleaner. the product has the directions on how much your supposed to put in your tank. I just put the cleaner in and ran the motor at all different RPM's, It took a couple of hours of running to clear up but it finally did.
Good luck with it & Good hunting Jeff |
