Hey All - We include this reminder for our guests in our newsletter and on our web board, but thought it might be valuable for a few other boards with a lot of Ontario anglers.

Please use this reminder to check for your Ontario Outdoors Cards, which you need to have to purchase an Ontario fishing license.

For those of you who received them after they initially became available in 2009, you will have another year left on your cards. If you first received one as a result of a license purchase in 2010, they’ll be good for 2 more years.

If you’ve lost or not received your card by now for any reason, please call the outdoor card centre and have them replace it for you. This is done free of charge as a replacement, but can take up to a month to receive. Take care of it now to ensure you’ll have it for your trip.

If you arrive without your card, the only option is to purchase another one. We can’t sell a fishing license without an existing card or a new temporary card application number; both of which you must carry at all times on the water.

The phone number for card related questions is 1-800-387-7011.

Just raise the price three dollars, instead of gouging me for nine...Plus, it doesn't speed anything up. I bought one two years ago, never received it in the mail. Had to buy it again last year...still waiting...

My dad, uncles, and father in-law have theirs and it did not speed anything up at the gas station/bait shop in Dryden last year.

If the MNR wanted more money out of us, just raise the price on the licenses three bucks.

It was so quick getting my license without the card, I can't see it helping much this year, unless they actually have a machine that reads all the info from it.

There actually is a machine that reads all the info from it.

I did not intend this to be a complaint thread about the card, but instead to try and SAVE people the $9 if they already have it or should have it.

For what it's worth...writing a quick license tag for someone with a card takes literally 30-45 seconds max. If it didn't speed things up where you bought your license, then whoever issued it was the problem there.

There has been talk of machines coming with print on demand type format, but nothing has been in the wind for this year and they are not using it in Rainy River where I bought my new license for 2011. Apparently there was a pilot program in some locales last summer, but we haven't hear anything more.

If you can buy the card anywhere that sells license tags and vice versa (or you SHOULD be able too...it's possible to be out of stock on them if you are sleeping at the switch.)

Main point of the thread was to CALL IF YOU DID NOT get it yet or can't find it now. They will send it or replace it.

The MNR does raise the prices of licenses EVERY year it seems so don't worry about them getting more money out of you. It you keep track of it, it will be $3 per year for the 3 years it's valid instead of $9 per year when you don't get it, don't call for it, lose it, and/or forget it.

I'm confused. If I have an expired card, why can't I just renew when I get my license? Is it cheaper if I do it on line?

These "machines" everyone is talking about are simply just old credit card machines that takes imprinted data off the face of the card. They are not same thing like what current credit card swipes are today where the magnetic strip holds all your info. As far as I can tell, why wouldn't you be able to go into a tackle shop with an expired card get an imprint, pay for your license and your more 3 years of your card at the same time?

Hey G...you still thinking about the MN expo with Doug?

We did try a few on our old credit card swiper...that might speed the process up a bit as well....10-15 seconds instead of 30-45 to write it down. If that's all they have planned, what a big waste of time and engery it will have been.

Won't help us at all in submitting everything each month.

Yes, if your card is expired, just tell them you need a new one when you buy your new license. It will be the same as you did the first time around and come in the mail (or not) and good for the year you bought it plus 2 more years.

Not cheaper to do it online, the MNR just saves paying the issuer the $1 for writing out the card application. For the time it takes to do it and submit everything, it's probably a money losing propsition for a card issuer to write a card application! LOL

Have to have the current card on you with the license, or the temp card app if you don't have a current card to be legal. Old one will not work..same as the temp card app wouldn't work for those that bought the card the year before. They have some goofy rules at the MNR, but this one is getting close to one of the goofiest the way people aren't getting cards and if the machines won't be electronic.

Hey Justin, not looking to go to MN Expo. However would love to see the Frozen Four, but the Badgers need to win the WCHA playoffs to get a NCAA bid. They have split 2 games with Colorado College (3rd one 2nite) so the outlook doesn't look good for them.

As for the card, personally I currently don't see an advantage of getting it renewed till I buy another license. At this time I'm not planning to fish Canada this year (my card expires 2011), so I won't know if I go to Canada till I get there in 2012 (if I go then). If I were to go this year, could I then pay to have it renewed for the next 3 years?

As issuers, we can't "renew" a card for an angler so you'd just wait til you needed a new one on your next trip, whethere it be 2012 or beyond. Then you'd get the paper copy like the first time you bought it and it would be good for that season plus 2 more.

I can't see any advantage in renewing online other than maybe avoiding some line-ups on busy days.

They also let you pay by credit card online, which most any issuer will not do because of the margin they set for you and merchant fees we pay on every credit card transaction.

That is a WHOLE DIFFERENT can of worms we won't get in to.

Hope things turned out ok for the Badgers!!

Nope, Badger lost, 2-1 last night. Their season is done. I do get to root for the #1 rank Women's Hockey team thou. They are playing in the NCAA Frozen 4 and that's being held in Erie PA on Friday (final on Sunday). I hope its on the tube.

Go Bucky girls!!!!!

Thanks for the info Justin.
