Now that Verizon has Iphones, I can join the "app" world (for some reason my tech guy said the droids wouldn't work with my system).  What cool/needed/recommended/ apps are out there?  Anything Muskie specific?

There's a muskie weight calculator, there's also ones on the solunar calenders, moon rise/set. Fish mate pro, and fish nots are fishing logs that record the conditions, moon, etc. just punch in your fish and its size. Navionics has there premium chips as an app. Barometer. if you are into more than just muskies there is a buoy data, fish head which will tell you the water level of streams and river all over the country. and check out fish cast.

There is a ton out there, these are just a few of what I have.

There’s a few knot tying apps and a muskie weight calculator app.

I hope this thread takes off because I’m new to iphone too. If you want to drive yourself nuts get a game called “angry birds” - highly addictive.

Thanks Tanner, Do you get the barometer app to work on the lakes up there? 3G service?

There's an ap called Moon Phase for about a buck that's extremely cool. Search "Moon Phase" in itunes aps, it will most likely be first one that appears. Moon rise / set, Sun rise / set, lots of interesting things - ap even howls during full moon. Enjoy

Sorry to hijack the thread but +1 on angry birds, Mike! Currently stuck on 3-15 in "Poached Eggs". It's a lot of fun. I play it on my htc incredible (android OS phone). Looks like the launch of the verizon iphone was underwhelming.

I think "angry muskies" ought to be developed.....launch them at unsuspecting jet skiers and pontoon boaters while a death metal soundtrack plays in the background. Watch out for that lure, ouch! game over unless you get released. LOL!

+5 on Angry Birds. 3 stars on every level except 13-12, 13-14, and 13-15. Get seasons if you need a fix.

just an FYI. i'm the one that made the muskie weight calculator app. it was my first app and i used it to figure out the Apple system. i just finished a complete rewrite of the app and submitted it yesterday for approval. so there is a new cleaner version coming soon. you can see screen shots here

anyone have any ideas for apps you would like to see that currently are not available or just done really poorly?

I'm wondering what Barometer program guys use? Everyone I can find on my iphone app store has terrible reviews.

The best weather and barometer app I have found is eWeather HD. It is not free but it is great. You can pick multiple locations, it has a good 10 day forecast, 24 hour barometer (also pretty accurate). Well worth the $2.

Are the Navionics Apps worthwhile?

I am now addicted to searching for (not necessarily using) apps.

How does some of the weather Apps vary from using internet sites such as weather underground or weather.com? What is the advantage to using the Apps?

i.wund.com works pretty good for me, and the price is right.

they dont have a app, atleast not yet, but i use this on my smartphone and my home computer. only takes a second to put your zip code in for the area that you are fishing and all the peak times are on it including major and minor times....bill

Nice work on this app, hadn't seen it and got it after reading this thread. Works great from what I've played with it. So there will be an update available soon?

The main advantage for me with the weather apps is that they're mobile. I've got the weather channel and accuweather on my iphone, both were free and work well for me.

I'll have to look into the barometer apps mentioned here, thought about that last season but hadn't really looked.

Check out one called after the catch.

It's a fishing log app. It takes awhile to setup, but if you do the setup ahead of time, you can log information while on the lake with a few quick taps of the screen....
