| I'm looking for a new topwater reel for this season. I'm leaning towards either a Toro 50 or a Curado 300. I'm putting it on an 8'0 MH Shimano Calcutta Inshore series rod (they don't make them anymore, but they're similar to the new Teramar series). I'll be throwing mostly topraiders, hawg wobblers, pacemakers, and maybe a few other propbaits. Just wondering what people think about the reel that would be best for this purpose. |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Almost any standard muskie reel works great for topwaters. I use my Okuma Induron 250 models for topwater and couldn't be happier. |

| As worrall said, any reel can handle topwater lures. Really just depends what you wanna spend. |

Location: Minnesota: where it's tough to be a sportsfan! | I like a higher speed reel for topwaters, just had too many strike come at the end of the cast. I think gathering line quickly is a key quality of my topwater reels. |

I have found that I really like the Revo Toro 60 Winch for straight retrieve topwaters. The slower gear ratio has made it easier for me to "feel" like I am fishing faster by turning the handle quicker. It's a mental game. I believe in general many people fish surface baits too fast. The slower reel has helped in that respect.

Location: South East Wisconsin | Lee and Steve both mentioned good ideas. I haven’t had any problems with my Shimano Cardiff 400A. IMO I feel slower is better. |

Location: Contrarian Island | I would not suggest the 50 size toro over the 60...go with the 60 all the way..had a 50 and on a long bomb cast too much line comes off the narrow spool imo..the 60 is the same profile just a wider spool....I got rid of the 50 to get a 60 w 5.4 and would suggest that reel .... |

I have seen this a few times and don't understand it. I have two curado's for over three years. I have thrown everything with them. Hard work with double 10's so I don't use them for that anymore but it still did the job for a season without breaking. I tell you, these reels are bullet proof and I have the time on them to prove it. One light season with a revo and they are still new to the market. Lets see how they make it through this season. I do like mine so far.

Location: In a shack in the woods | I've got a curado on a 7'6" ltm the jerk for WTD, gliders, and jerkbaits and a curado with a 8'10" steel 20 for small bucktails and straight retrieve topwaters. |
