At the moment I am experimenting with a 3D setup for lure manufactures, who are producing abroad. This setup allows lure designers or others, to visualize different paint models, and render them using a 3D software. As soon as the setup for a particular lure is made in 3D, it is easy and fast to produce various different lure colorations based on the same template using a paint program.

This technique could also be used in testing out particular color preferences on costumers, without making expensive prototypes. This exampled shows a wooden bait, in a classic color from Rapala/Pikopath.

Pic 1 shows the Basic 2D template made in a paint program(Photoshop)

Pic 2 shows the template mapped to the 3D lure model

Pic 3 shows the final render, ready to send pr e-mail to the manufacturer(typically in China)

If anyone is interested in more information, I am at your service pr E-mail

I have used 3dmax for this one, but any 3D model, from any CAD package could easily be converted into the mesh data 3dsmax use. I have used data from Solidworks, Catia, and Pro engineer before.
