| I custom paint fishing lures as a hobby for myself and others. I have gone through 3 of the harbor freight, central pnuematic air compressors in 2.5 years. They are the 40psi,oiless ones (diagphram i believe). They have the regulator and shutoff at the selected PSI.
I spray createx paint 99.9% of the time and looking to buy a compressor that will last! Im tired of dropping $70 a year on them just to break.
I would like something oiless/quiet and portable. I have limited working room on my bench and would like to save space.
Is the piston compressors the best for me? i normally spray around 40psi. I was looking at the paasche ds500sr but that is diaphram as well.....ANY ADVICE?

I too had tried the harbor freight ones and I had gone through two before I decided to switch. If you have a Hobby Lobby in your area, they usually have 40% off coupons. I got a $190 Silent Aire compressor for $114. I haven't had any issues with it.

Location: Pigeon Forge TN. | I use a twenty gallon craftsman and have used it for 6 years now with no problem. Little noisy but I paneled it off some and it helps.. When I painted commercially I used a 60 gallon with 220 volts. I always use the piston type. |

| we run oil belt driven 7 hp.60 gallon tank. is there a way to pipe in your air from a garage. . oiless compressers have short lives. |

| I also burnt out one of the cheap compressors in somewhere around 3 months. Got a good one now and love it. Just make sure to get all the water out of it every single time. I bought an Iwata compressor and wish I would have started w/ one. IMO you get what you pay for. |

| I went through 3 cambells from walmart in 2 months. Cambell Haus said if you get a 100 hrs of use out of them thats good. That won't last long if you're painting 6 - 8 hours a day. I've been using a Husky Air Scout from Home Depot for the past 4 months; 5,000 spinner blades and 1,000 lures later and still going strong. I think I paid $10 for a 3 year warranty too. |

| I use a 33 gallon craftsman. It turns on once and i paint all day. I also use it for my automotive air tools. I think i paid $300? |

Location: Okoboji | Yep don't waste anymore money on a airbrush specific compressor get a good branded pancake or small tank compressor and put a decent water trap filter on it and go to town |

Location: Minnesota: where it's tough to be a sportsfan! | RJ, saw your post on the compressors, see that you are painting blades. Do you have any lighter weight blades , colorado's, in the 8, 9, 10 size you would part with 10 or so of? |

Location: Pigeon Forge TN. | When I painted commercial My 60 gallon was in my garage and I piped the air into my shop. If you don't have a heated garage then you want to insulate the airline.
Also, I used 1 inch schedule 40 plastic tubing to pipe in my air. The pressure gauge was set at 100 psi at the tank than the gauges at the spray booths were set at 40 pounds. Always had plenty of volume as I had nine booths working. In case you wonder about the plastic. It was in service for 10 years with no problems what so ever. |
