i was going thru my truck load of baits and noticed that i have baits that have NEVER caught a fish, not even got a follow, 0, zippo, dick ,
some of the baits ( and i'm not knocking the baits, great baits) jake, 3 swicks, 1/2 my believers, and buck tails... even a manta, ernie, some reef hawgs, 4 perch baits, plow...
but the one jake is the one i've had for 12+ yrs and has never got a sniff, not sure if it 's the bait or the user , all other jakes are landing fish
i'm sure i have at least 40 baits that have not earned their pay

any one else have baits that don't earn their pay
(i'm really bored)

I hear ya. This year at the Chicago Show I spend $0.00 on baits. Prior to the show went through all my baits and found the 5-6 that always produce. Really made me wonder.

i went through the same thing about a month ago and had Wolftackle84 / Tyler in the Basement Baits Section here repaint a bunch for me and they all came out great! he will repaint them to match any pattern out there or he will do any pattern your imagination can come up with! he also has some real nice new twitchbaits than he will paint any way you like as well. check out his website...

Sometimes you buy baits and your never in the right situation to use it or it competes with a bait that you have caught fish on and you still use that bait in those situations and do not give the newer bait the same fair shake. All the baits you mentioned have caught alot of fish. Not sure what a swik is though.

I'm guessing he meant Suick. I haven't been doing this that long so I haven't acquired nearly the collection many of you guys have but am trying to use the logic ToddM stated to keep my tackle box smaller. I could have a box full of double 10's but I'm still gonna reach for the same one that seems to have the magic more often than not. I don't really NEED 8 different colors of everything!

Good point about the tackle box size, but it is hard trying not to buy eight different colors of everything. For me, it has been Storm Kickin' Minnows. Everyone says they're great, and I'm sure they catch fish. I really thought they would work. So far they have not even produced a follow, let alone a fish.

this yr i will have a few outings where i only bring the fisherman catching baits . this will force me to mod /learn the bait or it becomes a new christmas ornament. i tend not to get caught up in owning 12 diff colours a one bait, instead i get 3 diff sizes in 3 diff colours, but for some reason i have baits that have hrs of water time with nothing to show.
i have a Krave =0 fish, 2 manta's = 1 follow (late last yr), believers red/white , blue, =0 fish, reef hawg =o fish....
i'm sure the operator has something to do with it but the other baits that are the same type have attracted fish

this winter look for a brightly decorated musky christmas tree with walleye lights

Around our place we call these DOGS! The rest of the guys throw the dogs my way. I play with them over the winter and try to teach them to hunt. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I took a dog that I thought was perfect after I reweighted and coated it. I never caught even a cold while fishing with it. I gave it away. He caught six muskies in 2010 with it! Now I wonder which end of the rod really had the DOG on it!

I should also say I was at a gents house this winter. He was showing me his Muskie baits. WOW, I mean allot of baits. He had one wall in his basement covered with baits that have never been in the boat! not collectors, just have never been wet. I ran right home & told my wife about it!!!!!!!
