Location: (South of the 218) | At 9:00 a.m. when that fish hit, she moved some serious water and the clicker went off like a buzz saw. Tyler dropped his choppers to the bottom of the Crestliner quicker than Tie Domi used to at center ice. He reeled up the slack as we motored towards the running fish and when given the word, Tyler dropped the hammer on a Man Sized Hookset! - The fish hammered back and Tyler immediately knew this wasn't going to be easy.
I distinctly remember him asking, "How do you guys do this? I can't hold on. My arms are killing me!" But he did hold on and he did walk the length of the boat like an old pro. And he did stay the course as the big girl on the other end flexed her muscles. After tightening down the drag and finally gaining on the fish, we got our first look at her but not for long because she shot off like a rocket again. At that point I don't know if Tyler really believed that he was going to win the battle.
A couple of more looks at her and a couple of more runs later - the big girl finally rested in the net. 5+ years of trying to land the Fish of 10,00 casts and Tyler was On the Board! But not with just any fish. This was a beauty! A vibrantly spotted, well proportioned, supermodel of a specimen..... 48" of muscle and strength lay submissively in his lap for a few quick pictures and then off she went, back to the depths. Go ahead and cross off another one of those Rights of Passage son.... I'm proud of you!
Pix Included... Tyler with a LOTW trophy Northern from years past and his FIRST Muskie @ 48"!
Wow.
